The Division of Dermatology under the umbrella of the Department of Pediatric Medicine has multiple campuses and an international reputation for providing excellence in clinical care, teaching and biomedical research.  The Division of Dermatology coordinates its medical services and collaborates its research and educational activities with Hamad Medical Corporation and Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar.  The level of Qatari interest and support in medical quality, education, innovative research and technology has already resulted in significant discoveries and highly functional research organizations that will collaborate with Sidra Medical and Research Center.  Clinically, the Division of Dermatology provides the latest techniques from an integrated team of specialists and sub-specialists as well as the highest level of Patient Centered children’s health services.  By delivering the very highest quality in clinical care, Sidra Medical and Research Center will serve as a magnet for patients within the borders of Qatar and beyond


Reporting to the Clinical Service Chief of Pediatrics the Division Chief provides clinical, education, research and executive management leadership in Dermatology.  The Division Chief is a clinical and managerial leader working with the Sidra executive team to develop and deliver strategy and business plans and is accountable for resources and performance in Dermatology and integrates research and education priorities into a program of excellent clinical service delivery.  Specialized outpatient clinical services including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for complex and complicated procedures, consultations and case management, and other associated clinical and academic activites are managed in this Division.  It is anticipated that the Division Chief will be able to continue with personal clinical educational and research activities albeit in a reduced and modified manner, and will have a full-time appointment to Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar and hold the position of Associate Professor or Professor of Pediatrics- Dermatology.

  • Identifies and articulates the vision, strategic direction, and growth of the Division of Dermatology and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them.
  • Leads clinical service planning, service development and capacity planning for the Outpatient/Inpatient activities of Dermatology services.
  • Promotes leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention, and direct mission of excellence for the medical staff, and collaborates with the Division Chiefs to execute the strategies.
  • Recommends clinical privileges, appointment, reappointment and corrective action for each member of the Division of Dermatology as well as promoting mentorship and academic career development for these staff members.
  • Responsible for all administrative related activities of the Dermatology Division unless otherwise provided for by the hospital, and serves on all requested committees including the medical executive committee, and appointing such committees as necessary to conduct the function of the department.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide support provision of services to the Dermatology Clinic services.
  • Continues surveillance of the professional performance of all individuals in the Dermatology Division who have delineated clinical privileges, including performance, and ongoing and focused professional practice evaluations (OPPE and FPPE).
  • Continues surveillance of patient care and the professional performance of all individuals in the Dermatology Division who have defined clinical privileges.
  • Ensures that the staff of the Dermatology Division provide services that are in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Qatar Supreme Council of Health, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Accountable for the financial performance and management of all budgets within the Dermatology Division.
  • Implements the clinical service strategies and business plan for the Dermatology Division.
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of capital and other equipment and participates in the evaluation of products for use by different members of the Dermatology Division to ensure their safety and efficacy.
  • Sets and achieves targets to drive continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided and initiates actions for necessary improvements according to Sidra Board initiatives.
  • Works with the Clinical Service Chief of Pediatrics to establish and update the workweek standards for all physicians on staff and assures that there is appropriate clinical coverage for all patients requiring medical care from the Dermatology Division (including emergency care).
  • Ensures all members of the Dermatology Division optimize the use of electronic medical records.
  • Sets and achieves targets for programs and procedures for confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with hospital policy and the privacy laws of the State of Qatar.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Service Chief, ensures the implementation of robust clinical governance structures and processes to ensure patient safety.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Research officer and division heads of research, ensures a program of clinical and translational research is developed and promoted and delivered within the Dermatology Division.
  • In conjunction with the Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar ensures there is an active and continuous program of undergraduate teaching within the Dermatology Division to ensure an effective learning environment for students, residents, and medical staff.
  • Is actively involved in research, graduate teaching, and publication in higher impact refereed journals, advising of fellows, and students and participation in academic services.
  • Ensures effective communication with and involvement of all staff within the Dermatology Division in regards to key decisions and initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with other service chiefs, chief officers, and executive directors to achieve broad Sidra objectives.
  • Conducts other duties as may be directed by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer.
  • Initiates, implements and oversees programs designed to foster positive relations between Dermatology physicians and the hospital operations and administration.
  • Assists with marketing strategies to inform physicians and their staff of Sidra’s clinical diagnostic procedures, services and resources.
  • Promotes and evaluates physician community outreach programs as appropriate.
  • Develops, manages and supports physician and community relationships, coordinating and disseminating information to all stakeholders to solicit ongoing support from the State of Qatar for Dermatology.
  • Promotes outreach and communications with non-Sidra to providers of Dermatology care to help Sidra function as the premier regional center in the Gulf Region.
  • Identifies and coordinates resolution of problems to improve physician utilization and patient satisfaction.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate systems of communication between Sidra and other providers of primary and advanced care in Qatar for the purpose of individual patient care and systemic safety and quality improvement.
  • Supports the development of Sidra as a world-class regional center.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.


Scope of clinical responsibilities for Division Dermatology:

  • Screening consultations for outpatient as well as inpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated.
  • Coordinates the care of all specialist inpatients.
  • Coordination of care for complicated cases.
  • Coordinates appropriate referrals and transfers under standard and emergency situations.


Sites of practice:

  • Outpatient clinic building at Sidra including ultrasound suites and clinical office space.
  • Telemedicine consultation when developed and appropriate.
  • Procedure rooms in the clinic suites (and in hospital when needed and appropriate).
  • All inpatients, including those in the critical care units.
  • Site visits to referring and affiliated hospitals and clinics when requested and appropriate.


  • MD degree (or equivalent)

  • Residency training in Pediatrics or Medicine with emphasis on Dermatology

  • Fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology or experience in Pediatric Dermatology


  • 10+ years post-residency clinical experience in the relevant field from a North American Academic/ Health care  Institution  or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.
  • 3+ years in Academic leadership in area of specialty


  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
  • Active license to practice medicine in the home country or country of training (or equivalent certifications).
  • American Board Certification –Dermatology or Equivalent.
  • American Board of Pediatrics –Pediatric Dermatology Board Certification or equivalent.
