 The Division of Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery at Sidra Medicine is a specialized quaternary pediatric team serving the whole of Qatar. Within its broad scope of service is included the management of all pediatric hand and facial injuries, and complex structural birth deformities of the skull, ears, face, hands, limbs and trunk. The service has expertise in areas as diverse as trans-cranio-orbital reconstruction, total ear reconstruction (for microtia), facial reanimation (for facial palsy), resection of orbital tumors, jaw lengthening surgery (for micrognathia), and the fabrication of new fingers through either a toe-to-hand transfer or index pollicization procedure, to list but a few.  The division currently includes 3 preeminent consultants and one hospitalist



Clinical Fellowship Training Program: The paediatric plastic surgical fellowship is a structured 1 year educational program which aims to prepare a fellow for the independent practice of clinical Pediatric Plastic Surgery. The goals and objectives are set to exceed the competencies set in the ACGME Plastic Surgery documentation specifically pertaining to the pediatric population. The program will include exposure to all aspects of the pediatric plastic surgical curriculum with a particular focus on

  • Cleft lip and palate surgery
  • Craniofacial surgery
  • Ear reconstruction
  • Congenital and pediatric hand and upper limb surgery
  • Facial reanimation
  • Vascular anomalies
  • Plastic surgical trauma reconstruction

 Clinical Fellow: The program is open to application from physicians who are board certified or board eligible in an ACGME-I accredited training program in plastic surgery, or equivalent structured residency training in plastic surgery (minimum of 5 years). 



Participation in fellowship training programs requires the Clinical Fellow to:

  • Provide compassionate patient care to the highest standards under the appropriate level of supervision while fulfilling the training and educational requirements of the fellowship program.
  • Complies with all the curricular requirements of the fellowship training program including the on call duty hours.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds reviewing all the plastic surgical inpatients including cases on which plastic surgical consultations are requested on the various pediatric wards in conjunction with attending/consultant physician support.
  • Review and prepare a management plan for children presenting with acute pediatric plastic surgical conditions, this includes amongst others, skeletal and soft tissue hand injuries, pediatric soft tissue injuries of the face, trunk and extremities, and maxilllo-facial trauma.
  • Attend to pediatric consultation requests received from the Pediatric Intensive Care unit (PICU) and the Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as well as from other pediatric wards. He/She should seize these opportunities to enhance his/her knowledge about the workup and management of various plastic surgical conditions including congenital hand, cleft lip and palate and craniofacial in nature.
  • Organize investigations and to develop the necessary skills needed to accomplish this including requesting the appropriate tests and properly collecting them in co-ordination with other departments.
  • Present and discuss the management plan of the cases on the attending/consultant physician-led ward rounds.
  • Seek appropriate consultations with other pediatric sub-specialties when necessary and to collaborate with the consulting teams on ensuring that all appropriate testing and recommendations are follow through for each patient.
  • Presents case studies during grand rounds and attend other conferences as required
  • Reviews and be prepared to discuss relevant literature references.
  • Presents case studies and literature reviews during the scheduled Conferences.
  • Participates in the supervision, teaching and assessment of the medical students, interns and residents rotating in that specialty.
  • Engages in meaningful research activities and support the research agenda of the clinical division/department.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

  • MB ChB ,MBBS, MD
  • Board certification in a general specialty or equivalent


  • 3-5 years of residency training in Plastic Surgery

Certification and Licensure

  • A Board certification in an ACGME-I accredited training program in plastic surgery, or equivalent structured residency training in plastic surgery (minimum of 5 years) a general clinical specialty or equivalent board certified or board eligible
    Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
  • Ability to be licensed by QCHP 

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical competencies required by the curriculum during the residency training.
  • Demonstrates high level of judgment in clinical decision making.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
