DEPARTMENT/BRANCH PROFILE: Sidra’s Information Technology Division aims to support Sidra’s strategy to be a world-class, digital academic medical facility by incorporating the most advanced IT applications in all clinical, research, and business functions, and by providing high quality service at the point of care and the point of delivery. Headed by Chief Information Officer the division is responsible for planning, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving the Information Technology functions at Sidra.

Reporting to the Manager – Enterprise Imaging Systems, the Specialist – Imaging Information Systems is responsible for the day to day front line support, trouble shooting, and administration of the Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), Voice Recognition, Digital Pathology Imaging, Dental Imaging, Endoscopy and OR Imaging. S/he attends to issues that arise during daily operations of the Imaging Information management services, Pathology Digital imaging management and Other PACS Ologies. The incumbent takes part in implementation and upgrades of RIS/PACS/VNA, Digital Pathology, Women’s Health Imaging and other PACS Ologies including but not limited to; installation, testing and training. In each phase of implementation s/he will work on system monitoring, user support, network support,  system configurations changes and modifications, trouble shooting and problem solving, and maintenance.


  • Provides front line technical support to Foundational Services clinical end users and ensures that systems for delivering patient care for the modality are adhered to as directed.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of RIS/PACS/VNA including image workflow, archiving, auto-routing, and prefetching and other related activities. Works closely to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as RIS validation and handling exceptions. 
  • Responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and administration of the RIS/PACS/VNA, Digital Pathology Imaging/Dental Imaging/Endoscopic Imaging /OR Imaging and integrated Medical Imaging Systems under the supervision of the Manager – Imaging Information Systems.
  • Ensures that the optimum round the clock "Level of Service" is maintained under the prescribed SLAs.
  • Provides support and training for Clinical Professionals and End Users within Radiology and other Imaging services in the hospital.
  • Responsible for complete reporting workflow i.e. RIS, PACS, VNA and Voice Recognition Applications, Digital Pathology Imaging/Endoscopic Imaging /OR Imaging.
  • Daily monitoring of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), VNA and Radiology Information System (RIS), Digital Pathology Imaging/Endoscopic Imaging /OR Imaging to maintain data integrity.
  • Ensures timely and safely enterprise imaging data import to PACS and VNA systems.
  • Assists Radiologists in maintaining their exams reporting queue.
  • Responsible for systems access and training for new users in imaging departments
  • End user support during downtimes and ensures that all the data synchronization post downtime
  • Works under the supervision of the Manager, to improve the systems according to the latest standards and best practices
  • Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with operations managers and division heads as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate.
  • Works closely with quality management personnel to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes, which include further integration into operations. 
  • Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
  • Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.
  • Prepares reports for administration on all aspects of medical imaging operations as appropriate or directed.
  • Adheres to and promotes compliance with the hospital’s radiation safety and protection policy and associated codes of practice and takes appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.

Bachelor’s degree in related healthcare discipline or Information Systems or Computer Sciences or Medical Imaging technology or equivalent discipline as required

Formally trainedor Attended workshops on PACS Advanced concepts


7+ years relevant experience inclusive of

  • Working with RIS/PACS in a large healthcare facility.
  • Demonstrated experience providing first line trouble shooting support in a clinical setting.
  • Experiencing in daily PACS Administration operations, resolving exceptions.
  • Experience in Digital Pathology Imaging/Endoscopic Imaging /OR Imaging
  • Experience in troubleshooting RIS/PACS, integrating with modalities.


Certification and Licensure

Eligible for certification with an accreditation board with a professional association relevant to training specialty

Certification in Imaging Information (CCIP designation) or equivalent

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of JCI standards, IHE guidelines and initiatives to integrate the healthcare enterprise, current radiation safety guidelines and practices
  • Strong understanding of all modalities in an Imaging department including workflow for patients, staff, radiologists, and referring physicians from other departments and disciplines
  • Detailed knowledge of Imaging Modalities, Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and HL7/DICOM applications.
  • Knowledge of DICOM, HL7, HIPAA, and CPT standards
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot TCP/IP issues.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of business processes and workflows of Diagnostic Imaging and Healthcare delivery in a large tertiary hospital environment.
  • Ability to describe issues with adequate technical detail and raise incidents with Service desk.
  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of non –RIS systems and their architecture which are upstream and downstream to the RIS application. Including HL7, DICOM, HIS/ADT, Orders and Results, CPOE, Radiology Decision Support software
  • Knowledge of VNA (Vendor Neutral Archive) systems and their architecture
