Sidra Medicine’s Department of Surgery will provide world class excellence in clinical care, teaching and biomedical research for the women and children of Qatar.  The Department of Surgery coordinates its surgical services with Hamad Medical Corporation and collaborates in research and educational activity with Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar.  The level of national interest and support in medical quality, education, innovative research and technology has already resulted in significant discoveries and highly functional research organizations that will collaborate with Sidra.

The Department of Surgery at Sidra Medicine offers a comprehensive range of routine and advanced Surgical Services for women and children, equipped with state of the art technology in a completely digital hospital environment. The Department of Surgery is made up of the following services, delivered in accordance with best practice standards whilst being driven by clinical evidence methodologies, in a patient-centered, highly collaborative environment: in the pediatric population: General and Thoracic Surgery, Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology/Audiology, Ophthalmologic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Dental Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Urology.  In addition, surgical treatment for acute gynecological surgical conditions will be provided. Within each of these subspecialties, care for the spectrum of diseases seen in the pediatric population will be provided. A specific goal of the department is to conduct research into the surgically treated diseases seen in Qatar, evaluating both the pathophysiology and treatments. The Department will evaluate and provide novel and upcoming therapies to our patients and participate in the development of new technologies. The department will provide leadership and faculty for the teaching of medical students, residents and advanced trainees, so that Sidra becomes a leader in the education of surgeons for the future. It is anticipated that, by providing specialist and subspecialist expertise in an integrated team environment and concomitantly conducting research, Sidra will become a substantive referral center for patients within and outside Qatar.



The Clinical Director – Audiology (AuD) is responsible for leading high level administrative and clinical functions of Audiology Services in the Department of Otolaryngology and Audiology. The incumbent provides clinical, educational, research and executive management leadership for Pediatric Audiology.  S/he is a clinical and managerial leader working with the Chief to develop and deliver strategy and business plans and be accountable for resources and performance in providing Audiology services for children. In conjunction with cross-disciplinary teams, the Clinical Director – Audiology integrates research and education priorities into a program of excellent clinical service delivery.

The Clinical Director – Audiology identifies and articulates the vision, strategic direction and growth of the Audiology department and leads the implementation of strategies to achieve them. S/he coordinates the provision of care for children requiring Audiology services as well as the future expansion of Audiology and proposed programs.  S/he functions as the leader of the Pediatric Audiology team and is a leader of the multidisciplinary teams involved in the care of these patients. The incumbent is responsible for instruction, direction, and performance appraisal to meet the professional standards for all Audiologists employed at Sidra. S/he is an outstanding clinician responsible for developing, teaching and training students and trainees, leading research as well as meeting their clinical duties.

The Clinical Director – Audiology (AuD) is responsible for developing the skill sets and human capital of the Audiology staff. Specifically, s/he provides mentorship and career development support for the Audiologists and Audiology technicians including the development of clinical, teaching, research and administrative expertise. The Clinical Director – Audiology (AuD) is also responsible for identifying problems if they should ensue, and developing effective strategies for improving and optimizing outcomes on a continual basis.

  • Promotes a culture of excellent efficient and quality service delivery in a congenial, supportive, collaborative and equitable environment working collaboratively with service leads.
  • Leads Audiologists / Audiology technicians in all service areas.
  • Directs and coordinates clinical activities, standards of care, treatment, and comprehensive services.
  • Leads clinical service planning, service development and capacity planning for Audiology.
  • Develops and implements the policies and procedures required to guide and support the provision of audiology services.
  • Takes the lead on formulating current and long-range programs, goals and plans for the department ensuring the implementation of robust clinical governance structures and processes to ensure patient safety.
  • Promotes leadership and direction for the development of strategies for the selection, recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotions, identifies staff development needs and ensures that training is provided.
  • Ensures optimal audiology coverage at all times across Sidra in various settings.
  • Mentors audiology staff and trainees; Teaches undergraduate and/or graduate level clinical courses to students, interns, residents, fellows and other professionals in the evidence-based practice of clinical audiology.
  • Provides assessment supervision of clinical students, trainees and new staff.
  • Keeps abreast with new developments in treatment and techniques; adapts them to the specific needs of the department.
  • Provides suggestions with regard to operating problems, department budgetary matters, personnel matters, technical problems, and the status of programs and projects.
  • Meets with Division Chief to discuss programs and problems and provides clinical leadership.
  • Undertakes the performance appraisal to meet the professional standards of Audiologists.
  • Diagnoses and manages a wide variety of audiological conditions.
  • Formulates and implements appropriate auditory management care plans based on diagnostic information, taking into account audiological status, communication skills and social needs in collaboration with the patient/family and other members of the health care across the full range of care settings.
  • Advises staff in the resolution of sensitive, complex, or precedent-setting situations; determines appropriate course of action; assigns responsibilities and monitors actions and responses.
  • Ensures the procurement and availability of state of the art audiological facilities and equipment to deliver the best patient care.
  • Initiates outreach programs to connect with the community thus raising awareness around audiology and hearing healthcare issues.
  • Evaluates and makes decisions about audiologic treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and evidenced based practice and current trends in audiological care.
  • Provides specialist audiological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to patient’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Undertakes risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and provides general advice to other professionals on audiological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  • Acts as Lead for Audiology research; publishes in peer reviewed journals.
  • Prepares scientific and technical reports or presentations; Presents at National & International level at the conferences.
  • Leads in service development and audiology expansion. Has a key role in procurement, installation, commissioning of audiology testing facilities and equipment, multi-professional liaison and consultation.
  • Ensures program plans for audiology services are developed in compliance with departmental policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality with regards to information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Doctor of Audiology (AuD)



10+ years’ experience as a practicing clinical audiologist with progressing responsibilities including 3 years in an academic teaching hospital or comparable


Certification and Licensure

  • Current License in country of origin as an Audiologist
  • Eligible for license in State of Qatar after onboarding.
