Department: The Department of Pharmacy provides world class pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient base of women and children of both local and international origin. Our expert staff is dedicated to the provision of specialized pediatric and maternal healthcare in an empathetic and caring clinical environment.  Pharmacy Department services inpatient, emergency and ambulatory settings in a 399 bed facility utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technologies.
Job Summary: The Team Lead - Pharmacy Services leads, supervises, and facilitates the day-to-day activities of pharmacists and technicians in providing complete pharmaceutical care for the patients.  The incumbent is responsible to ensure provision of safe, rational and cost-effective drug therapy through distribution and cognitive services. He/she is liable to ensure that comprehensive patient care services are being provided which support the integrity of the family system and patient care team. He/she proactively supports the efforts to ensure delivery of safe patient care services and to promote a safe environment at Sidra.
Key Role Accountabilities:
  • Drives the operation in alignment of goals and strategy of the department.

  • Organizes, supervises and operates assigned pharmacy service in a cost effective manner;

  • Develops, implements and evaluates ongoing design and workflow changes that improve the daily work methods, productivity, service and resource utilization by staff and members. 

  • Empowers, stimulates, encourages and supports team members to work towards departmental goals.

  • Notifies team members of decisions, changes and other relevant information in a timely manner.

  • Delegates daily activities to achieve optimal outcomes.

  • Conducts employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors.

  • Serves as a liaison between team members and other departments and communicates problems and concerns to the Manager – Pharmacy Operations in a timely manner (e.g., personnel problems, workflow, safety concern, and medication error).

  • Ensures compliance with system and pharmacy policy.

  • Coordinates drug information to ensure that education is given to patients and caregivers; healthcare providers’ questions are answered accurately and promptly and other communications are given to educate patient care providers on important pharmacy topics.

  • Advises the patient on how to best take his or her medications.

  • Ensures continuity of care between the acute and ambulatory patient care environments.

  • Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely, as per policy and procedure.

  • Assists the Manager – Pharmacy Operations in addressing clinical matters relating to drug shortages and other drug procurement issues, in collaboration with Drug Supply.

  • Participates in projects with the local College of Pharmacy and local Pharmacy organizations as needed.

  • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and disease state appropriateness relative to drug and dose.

  • Sustains professional competence and promotes the development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the compounding of extemporaneous preparations.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in aseptic technique during the preparation of sterile pharmaceutical products.

  • Maintains professional competency and skills sufficient to meet current and future needs of the facility.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures relating to Medication Safety, and provides suggestions for increasing it.

  • Supports and participates in the goals of the organization's quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety programs to include (but not limited to) National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, and other medication-related Joint Commission International (JCI) initiatives.

  • Works with the Medication Safety Pharmacist to design systems and procedures that aim to prevent medication errors and increase medication safety in his/her specialty area.

  • Manages employee work schedules using proper mix of personnel.

  • Ensures that daily and monthly responsibilities are accomplished by team members (i.e. hood cleaning logs, internal expiration date checks, temperature logs).

  • Ensures accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports

  • Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances as required by regulatory guideline

  • Collaborates with other departments such as Finance.

  • Supervises the safe and competent use of all Pharmacy equipment used in area of practice (i.e., Scriptpro, Omnicell, Swisslog, TPN Baxa, and RIVA).

  • Participates in the orientation and training of Pharmacy students, residents and newly hired Pharmacists and Technicians.

  • Provides accurate shift-to-shift communication regarding unsolved situations requiring future action.

  • Provides professional, courteous service to all customer types (patients/family, Nursing, Medical Staff, others).

  • Directs Process/Quality Improvement activities of his/her specialty area, including Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).

  • Monitors and evaluates clinical interventions submitted by Pharmacy staff in his/her specialty area and taking action to address undesirable trends as needed, on a regular basis.

  • Complies in all activities with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements for a specific practice setting.

  • Completes all required Continuing Education activities to maintain licensure to practice as a Pharmacist in Qatar, per the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP).

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.
Essential Requirements:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from an ACPE or equivalent accredited School of  Pharmacy with Residency OR Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (PGDipClinicPharm)
  • 5+ years’ of Pharmacy experience in a Hospital setting environment inclusive of 2+ years of progressive supervisory experience.
  • Licensed in Pharmacy in country of origin.

  • Obtain State of Qatar Pharmacy License after onboarding. 
  • Excellent knowledge of Pharmacy Operation in a Healthcare Organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with Pharmacy Information Systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
