DEPARTMENT/BRANCH PROFILE:

The Heart Center harnesses the expertise of an internationally renowned team by providing comprehensive care to children and adults with congenital cardiac defects. It provides a wide range of services including cardiac surgery, interventional therapies, electrophysiological therapies, cardiac anesthesia, perfusion, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), cardiac intensive care, non-invasive cardiology, outpatient and inpatient cardiac care as well as fetal cardiology.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead – Cardiac Data Quality, Assurance and Abstraction provides support to the Heart Center team in all functions related to data abstraction, assurance and quality. The incumbent is responsible for developing, managing and maintaining membership of Heart Center registries across numerous sub-specialties including non-invasive cardiology, cardiac cath, electrophysiology and cardiac surgery, among others. The Lead has an integral role in coordinating projects involving research, clinical trials and clinical Epidemiology. The ability to produce, interpret and present accurate and comprehensive information will be crucial in shaping and developing the service. The Lead also maintains a thorough working knowledge of protocol schemes and requirements. The role ensures compliance with the standards of regulatory bodies and function as primary coordinator of the implementation and ongoing management of study protocols.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Uses critical thinking skills and judgment within scope of responsibility to give input and make decisions on issues impacting the Heart Center.

  • Performs quality assurance tasks within the Heart Center.

  • Performs quantitative and qualitative review of Center’s clinical databases and registries, ensuring the systems are fit for purpose and are used effectively within the facility.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of an internal quality assurance program for data collection, to ensure compliance with the standards of regulatory bodies.

  • Conducts appropriate analysis on data metrics, identifies potential trends, inconsistencies and risks and draws conclusions for action planning.

  • Handles and organizes large datasets, applies various statistical techniques and prepares reports and presentations to summarize and communicate results.

  • Contributes to the development of appropriate reporting systems and tools.

  • Conducts data audits and quality checks as to provide accurate and timely analyses.

  • Liaises with stakeholders to collect the information and data required.

  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Acquires additional clinical data when necessary from Sidra’s EMR system as well as external hospitals and organizations in compliance with the IRB and/or Qatar data protection requirements.

  • Promotes the meaningful use of data generated from EMR and other data collection resources.

  • Assesses the quality of data collected on a regular basis.

  • Initiates and leads process improvement projects to assure data quality standards.

  • Supports the team in meeting its’ quality assurance goals by using data reports to correct errors and to provide insight into ongoing improvement opportunities.

  • Ensures compliance with the policy on data protection, confidentiality and security of patient’s health information.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Cardiovascular Technology, Business / Health Administration or related field 

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role with experience in data management and reporting

  • Previous experience maintaining and working with large datasets and data reporting

  • Ability to organize and analyze large datasets

  • Previous experience of data collection

  • Experience working with clinicians

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Proficiency with Databases, Microsoft Office suite, advanced knowledge of Excel

  • Fluency in written and spoken English

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working in a clinical setting

  • Experience with clinical registries

  • Lean/Six Sigma/Project Management Professional Certification 

  • Experience with Database and Statistics Software such as SPSS  

  • Fluency in written & spoken Arabic

  • Previous experience working in the Gulf countries
