DEPARTMENT PROFILE:

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition provides wide range of services to treat complex gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders in children ages 0 to 18.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Attending Physician  - Gastroenterology is responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence-based care; effective and efficient diagnosing, managing and treating all patients placed under the role holder’s care. The Senior Attending Physician  - Gastroenterology makes recommendations, orders appropriate therapeutics and diagnostics as per the patient’s diagnosed condition. The Senior Attending Physician  - Gastroenterology should have a good experience in interventional and diagnostic endoscopy and nutritional support in children.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assesses and reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice. 
• Actively participates in interdisciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients. 
• Reviews results of all investigations, develops and modifies treatment as required, provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.
• Works in close co-operation with the present permanent staff, particularly with regard to organization and development of the clinical service, formulation and conduct of clinical trials and the pooling of results for analysis.
• Assists in supervising activities of junior medical staffs and jointly assumes responsibility for patient care.
• Responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence-based care and services within specialty area.
• Conducts Ward rounds, reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
• Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
• Provides clinical excellence by effective and efficient diagnoses, manages, and treats all patients placed under post holder’s care.
• Responsible for the analysis and reporting of esophageal PH-impedance studies and surface electrogastrograms.
• Responsible for the performance of high resolution esophageal manometry, antroduodenal manometry, colonic manometry and anorectal manometry.
• Undertakes regular diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies each week, with additional short acting or general anaesthetic cases as required.
• The unit runs an on/off service rota in which attending physicians in turn have principal responsibility for the day to day running of the ward, in hospital referrals and on-call.
• Demonstrates an active interest and involvement in research by initiating innovative clinical or research outcomes or collaborating on research projects to support the Sidra vision.
• Delivers safe, effective, and holistic clinical services within accepted standards of care. 
• Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
• Supports the inpatient parenteral nutrition service and the home parenteral nutrition programme.
• Liaises with colleagues, Allied Health staff, nursing, administrative and support services staff for additional input as required.
• Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
• Supports, implements, and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • MD degree (or equivalent)
  • Completion of residency program/fellowship in the Pediatric Gastroenterology  from an accredited Western Board.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of post-certification/residency in clinical care or education in the relevant field 
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in motility disorders.

Certification and Licensure:

  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
