The International Medical Affairs Program manages and leverages the momentum around existing and potential international relationships and global business development opportunities at Sidra Medical and Research Center (SMRC), including international collaborations and exchanges, international consulting partnership opportunities consistent with SMRC’s strategic objectives for global health initiatives, and international patient referrals.  The International Medical Affairs Office at SMRC aims at developing a system to monitor and communicate sustainable activities between SMRC and hospitals, health care systems and individuals outside Qatar and manage resources and relationships for the growth of international revenues, and philanthropic activities.



Under the direction of the Director - International Medical Affairs, the Specialist - International Patient Care is responsible for assisting international patients with all details related to their requirements to have appointments with various consultants at Sidra and their lodging in Qatar. The incumbent is responsible for securing payments for their care at Sidra either directly from patients or via a third party (Embassy, Insurer, etc.)



  • Receives and responds to international inquiries for patient care
  • Works closely with Health Insurance companies, international payors, foreign embassies, ministries of health, to arrange for pre-authorization/guarantee letter of payments
  • Solicits medical records of potential international patients. Works with physician consultants throughout SMRS and their clinical and business support staff to develop appropriate consultation and treatment plans for international patients
  • Consults with revenue cycle management and patient financial services to convert consultation/ treatment plans into financial estimates of anticipated costs
  • Composes appropriate documentation to support applications for visa’s to enter Qatar, upon satisfactory financial arrangements
  • Coordinates appointments with Clinical Concierge to ensure timely services and with sensitivity to family travel needs
  • Ensures interpreter services are arranged, as needed
  • Maintains a database and the master spreadsheet of international patients
  • Develops and nurtures relationship with insurance companies, foreign embassies and ministries of health
  • Exhibits knowledge of and ability to recognize corporate infrastructure, culture, existing programs and relationships
  • Coordinates and communicates patient’s progress medical reports while at Sidra with referring physicians and guarantors
  • Registers patients in Sidra’s Cerner and creates medical record number upon receiving passport copy, insurance coverage and medical reports
  • Prepares and communicates patient’s medical appointment itinerary prior to patient’s arrival
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
  • Adheres to and promotes Sidra’s Values


In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
  • 5+ years relevant experience within a healthcare facility (Hospital) or healthcare insurance company
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Outstanding customer service skills, communicates well and utilizes excellent listening skills and telephone etiquette.
  •  Ability to prioritize and perform multiple duties in an often fast paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English


  • Arabic language proficiency will be an added advantage
