The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Department Profile:

The Department of Ophthalmology is a multidisciplinary teriary care department that offeres the complete spectrum of teriary and quatererary  ophthalmology care to children. 

Job Summary:

The Consultant – Hospitalist functions within the Department of Ophthalmology to assist in the care of the patients.  Care is delivered as part of an interprofesssional team.  The hospitalist is responsible for assessment of patients as well as carrying out the care plans.  Care is in outpatients, on the wards as well as in the intensive care areas such as PICU, NICU, and ER. There is a variable  requirement to work in other areas such as the operating room. The hospitalist reports to the consultant ophthalmologist. The primary duties of the hospitalist is to provide the front line patient care of the surgical pateints, under the direction of Consultant Ophthalmologist. The ultimate responsibility for patient care lies with the Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Work will involve shift work including overnight shifts in hospital. This is a full-time position with the work hours as dicted by Sidra policy.

Participation in scholarly and quality projects will be required.

Teaching to Medical and interprofessionals will be required.

Key Role and Accountability:
  • Daily responsibility is to the Consultant Ophthalmologist for clinical duties
  • Will provide mid-level care to the surgical patients as part of a professional team
  • Varied Administrative responsiblilties

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Work Environment the role operates in

Qualification, Experience & Skills:


  • MD
  • Successful completion of a Post-Graduate residency ideally in Pediatric ophthalmology


  • Minimum completion of Residency only

Certification and Licensure:

  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area

Job Specific Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
