Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.


A state of the art simulation center and program serving to improve patient outcomes for Qatari, non-Qatari and international children/women and their families through education and simulation programs. The service will provide simulation educational services to all Sidra staff, medical students, residents and stakeholders in a variety of settings including a simulation center, mock up, education rooms and actual work environments (In-situ simulation). This vision encompasses a cooperative national and international research agenda with stakeholder collaboration.

The Director - Simulation Center administrates and plans for the Simulation Center, overseeing all educational and operational aspects of the Center to include development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs; staffing; budget planning and administration; equipment planning and maintenance; relationships with internal and external stakeholders and academic affiliates; simulation research program oversight; and strategic planning.

  • Leads commissioning and develops the long-term and short-term plans, policies, procedures and processes of the Simulation Centre. Prepares and manages the budget and funding sources. Incorporates patient simulation technology into existing healthcare practice and represents the simulation activities at national / international conferences.

  • Educates clinical staff as a simulation mentor and manages the staff.

  • In collaboration with other content experts, oversees the development and evaluation of new courses, scenarios and educational initiatives.

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, innovation, implementation and integration of patient simulation technology into existing healthcare curricula.

  • Serves as simulation mentor and educator to clinicians, staff and management team.

  • Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation.

  • Publishes and presents simulation activities at national and international conferences.

  • Determines Simulation Center priorities and goals and ensures that the mission is achieved. Communicates this information to staff and other stakeholders.

  • Develops and implements policies, procedures and practice standards consistent with Simulation Center mission and educational objectives.

  • Ensures that required certifications, licensures and accreditations are maintained on an ongoing basis.

  • Prepares annual budget, monitors revenue/expenditures throughout the year and manages funding sources.

  • Identifies and submits extramural grants/partnership funding opportunities (governmental, professional foundations, industry) for simulation education and patient safety research.

  • Oversees optimal utilization of simulation center, including recruitment of faculty and users, scheduling and coordination of sessions.

  • Recruits, hires and manages Simulation Center staff to assure effective maintenance and operation of programs. Provides training, performance appraisal, disciplinary counseling and actions, scheduling, and work assignments.

  • Develops trusting, collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and students within the institution as well as with other simulation centers and educational institutions.

  • Fosters and supervises research activities, facilitating publication with multidisciplinary collaborations.   Interprets information from research and utilizes research findings in planning simulation center activities.  Disseminates research findings to team members as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with regional, national and international users to advance the use of simulation in healthcare education.

  • Develops and implements strategic plan and short and long-term goals for the simulation center.

  • Maintains data confidentiality and security; prepares secured area for data storage and retrieval.

  • Determines operational training and development needs.

  • Leads commissioning activities for the simulation center and related areas/activities when required.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.



  • Master’s degree in Health Education, or Administration, Nursing from a North American institution or equivalent in the UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand.

  • 10+ years of experience with progressive responsibilities in relevant field including -

  • 5+ years’ senior level leadership and management experience in a healthcare setting of which 2+ years’ experience in a senior leadership position in simulation.

  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of multidisciplinary simulation programs in a healthcare environment.

  • 5+ years’ experience as a practitioner in a healthcare environment, with significant exposure to direct patient care.

  • 2+ years’ experience in the development and delivery of clinical education programs including curriculum development.

  • Licensed/Certified in the country of origin

  • Demonstrated knowledge in various key modalities of simulation including manikin-based simulation, part task trainers, standardized patients, gaming and virtual reality training, hybrid simulation, and team training.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of simulation LMS, AV, and simulation center management systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of business planning including budgeting and revenue management, staffing, strategic planning, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and methods of adult education.

  • Demonstrated senior leadership and management ability.

  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to make oral and written presentations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, work to deadlines, prioritizes, and makes critical decisions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Fluency in written and spoken English


  • 2+ years research experience preferred-designing and conducting studies, applying for research grants, assisting in publication writing; presentations at international conferences.

  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.

  • Membership and active involvement in major simulation organizations such as SSH, INACSL, and SESAM.

  • Experience in development and start-up of a simulation center.

  • Experience in the onboarding of staff in a greenfield hospital.

  • Experience in hospital commissioning.
