World Class: Patient and Family Centered Care Health Education Biomedical Discovery


The Research Department will house several hundred researchers working on many aspects of feto-maternal health. It will cover basic, translational, clinical trials and informatics research. The Department comprises two research floors totaling 10,000M2 and 9 smaller “satellite laboratories” throughout the hospital. The department will house basic laboratories as well as state of the art core facilities, e.g. genomics, medicinal chemistry and imaging.

Biomedical informatics division within Sidra Research branch focuses on creating a world leading IT service delivery model to support the IT needs for the entire research branch and also provide flexibility to our researchers to undertake research without constraints from the traditional IT environment.

Biomedical informatics division has acquired a state of the art multi-million dollar High Performance Computing (HPC) system specifically for Genomic and Biomedical Research applications.

This assists in studies and pursuing the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem solving, and decision making, motivated by efforts to improve human health.

Person: Staff Scientist Assistant Level – Translational Bioinformatics is involved in carrying out innovative research in bioinformatics and next generation sequencing data analysis. The post holder works under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and actively contributes in designing and developing new bioinformatics methods to help address the challenges of personalized medicine. The incumbent is also involved in performing advanced analysis of Omics data especially Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). He/ She is also expected to work closely with Biologists and Clinicians in order to understand the biological/ clinical challenges and help them address their questions by implementing the proper analytics; also contributes to paper writing and presents their work internally and at international scientific events. Knowledge and or experience in Big Data load management and operation would be considered an asset. He/ She also provides training to junior staff and students. 
Qualifications, Experience and Skills - Selection Criteria:





PhD degree in Bioinformatics or a related field



  • Previous post-doctoral experience


  • Research experience with publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and/ or conferences


  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and databases


  • Genomics and other Omics data analysis experience


  • Good background in quantitative methods and statistics


  • Knowledge of programming and/ or scripting languages
  • Strong background in molecular biology


  • Experience in a clinical setting

Other Information:
  • Excellent working knowledge of HPC system is preferred
  • Knowledge and or experience in Big Data load management and operation would be considered an asset
