Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

DEPARTMENT/BRANCH PROFILE: Our family centered-friendly environment will be a 399 bed state of the art facility serving Qatari, non-Qatari and international women and children and their families. Our experienced staff will operate within a model of care underpinned by international evidence based best practice and supported by world class technology. Our interprofessional teams will work collaboratively to secure wellness optimizing patient/family outcomes to contribute to Sidra’s reputation as a high reliability organization. Clinical research focused on education, quality improvements and a culture of patient and family safety will be used to inform and guide best practice standards.

JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Nurse Leader supports the Clinical Nurse Manager in leading, precepting and mentoring the nursing and midwifery staff as clinical expert in a unit/ service. The Clinical Nurse Leader is a key member of the interprofessional team and ensures that standards for nursing and midwifery care are adhered to at unit/service level while working within an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for shift coordination, patient flow, patient experience and resource allocation. The incumbent delivers clinical care for the majority of their time and supports the Clinical Nurse Manager to ensure successful commissioning. The Clinical Nurse Leader is professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Makes recommendations to the Manager regarding decisions that have a unit level impact.

  • Makes day to day decisions regarding unit operations that impact quality and efficiency of patient care.

  • Delivers nursing care to patients and rounds to support efficient patient pathways.

  • Makes day to day decisions about staff allocations during shift to ensure that appropriate staff are allocated to the correct patients to promote safe patient care and the best learning environment.

  • Prioritizes high and low risk patients based on patient centered assessment and plan of care.

  • Provides shift supervision and guidance to staff in collaboration with Clinical Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists ensuring that all care is provided in accordance with Core Standards of Nursing and Midwifery Care and established policies and procedures.

  • Provides individualized patient care as per Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners Licensure Scope, the core standards of nursing and midwifery care and leads on clinical practice.

  • Coordinates complex patient care needs in collaboration with other clinical staff.

  • Ensures safe and high quality patient care during shift through appropriate and equitable allocation of work to the team based on patient acuity and skill mix.

  • Supports the junior staff when there are emergencies and/or patient complaints with escalation.

  • Coordinates with bed management on patient bed assignments.

  • Produces, coordinates and manages day to day staff assignments for the assigned shift.

  • Facilitates patient flow and coordinates patient’s activities and communication during shift.

  • Role-models patient experience principles, provides service recovery and identifies continuous improvement opportunities as required.

  • Identifies patient care issues and/or ways to improve and positively impact on the quality of care and patient outcomes.

  • Supports the Clinical Nurse Manager to ensure each unit has an effective comprehensive unit based safety programme aligned to the overall corporate programmes.

  • Supports the Clinical Nurse Manager in the employee performance appraisal cycle objectively and assists with action plans arising from appraisals as necessary.

  • Contributes to the achievement of cost efficiency savings in the unit and maintains an awareness of resource utilization, exercising care in the ordering and use of equipment and materials.

  • Leads Performance Improvement activities on the unit towards the achievement of agreed key performance indicators as assigned.

  • Supports the selection, development and retention of all staff.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

ESSENTIAL

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent

     

  • Registered Nurse
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing

Experience

4+ years of recent clinical nursing experience including 2+ years leadership/supervisory/charge experience in specialty area

  • Experience in an Academic Medical Center.

     

  • Demonstrated experience with Clinical Information Systems and Hospital Commissioning

Certification and Licensure

  • Valid professional nursing license in country of origin.

     

  • Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar
  • Post graduate specialty certification

Professional Membership

 

  • Member of a professional nursing association
