Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

DEPARTMENT/ BRANCH PROFILE: The Department of Pathology is a professional service that provides a full range of diagnostic testing and interpretations and serves additional functions including academic training and teaching.  The hospital-based laboratory will provide diagnostic testing in Anatomical Pathology including comprehensive Cytopathology, and Anatomical Pathology. Blood Sciences including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion.  Microbiology and Immunology including Molecular Pathology, Cytogenetics, and Point of care testing (POCT) and Phlebotomy services. The Department of Pathology will be CAP, ISO-15189 and JCI accredited. The Department is supported by the Cerner PathNET LIS as part of an enterprise-wide CIS and will incorporate ward-based electronic testing, wireless and RFID technologies in Phlebotomy, as well as digital pathology. Cytopathology is characterized by complex, interpretive analytical work as reflected by dedicated CAP accreditation guidelines.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Primary duty is the provision of transportation of supplies, goods within and outside of the Pathology Department including daily delivery of Blood and Blood Products from HMC Blood Bank.

  • Ensures the correct storage of all goods within appropriate store areas and fridges.

  • Sorts, collects and delivers Pathology reports and mails to various areas of the hospital if required.

  • Undertakes general duties of a routine or non-routine nature.

  • Returns portering equipment to approved storage areas.

  • Checks all equipment before use and report any defects to the line manager, taking such action as may be necessary to remove the defective equipment from use until repaired.

  • Ensures effective communication and response times.

  • Undertakes training as required fulfilling this role and any further training, which will enhance both personal effectiveness and also the delivery of high standards of service.

  • Collects/delivers clean linen to appropriate designated areas.

  • Occasionally assists with the receipt, storage and onward dispatch of equipment, supplies and materials.

  • Complies with Health and Safety policies and procedures and recognize their importance.

  • Coordinates when needed with roles and functions of other members of other Logistics

           Services team.

  • Works to standard operating procedures under supervision.

  • Assists senior staff with stock control of consumables and reagents.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

JOB SUMMARY:

Pathology Support Worker works as part of the Pathology department team and carry out a variety of tasks associated with the delivery of a high quality and efficient service that includes:

  1. The transportation of daily blood and blood products stock from HMC central blood bank.

  2. Supporting the department with the daily tasks such as reagent and consumable transfer and storage.

Undertake other general logistical duties as required by the department.
