Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Department: The Research Department will house several hundred researchers working on many aspects of feto-maternal health. It will cover basic, translational, clinical trials and informatics research. The department comprises of two research floors totaling 10,000M2 and 9 smaller “satellite laboratories” throughout the hospital. The department will house basic laboratories as well as state of the art core facilities, e.g. genomics, medicinal chemistry and imaging. The Research Department will include a GMP Cell and Gene Therapy manufacturing facility and principal investigators who will carry out IRB approved translational and clinical research studies some of which may involve the administration of cell and gene therapies.
Person: The Research Specialist I performs routine and moderately complex tasks related to administration, use and development of data mining and machine learning resources.    He/she works with general supervision. The incumbent is required to exercise judgment in making technical decisions related to delegated tasks and escalating complex issues.
Key Role Accountabilities:
  • Programs and implements data mining pipelines.

  • Performs data curation and processes biomedical research data.

  • Performs advanced analysis on biomedical research data.

  • Visualizes data analysis results in graphical representations.

  • Collaborates with other Sidra members to apply the results of research and/or develop new techniques or practices.

  • Makes recommendations to the Investigator regarding improvements in methods and processes.

  • Solves moderately complex problems and performs a specific variety of technical assignments within broader projects.

  • Contributes to ongoing research projects that include taking measurements and recording observations, collecting, compiling and processing data.

  • Assists in procurement of additional/new funding through contributions to technical proposal preparation and/or presentations.

  • Presents ongoing work and methods to research group.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills - Selection Criteria:

 

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in data science related fields.

 

Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant experience inclusive of:

     

  • Experience in data processing and manipulation

     

  • Experience in machine learning projects

     

  • Experience in understanding and developing machine learning and deep learning models

     

  • Experience in a Linux environment

 

  • Experience in research and/or academic settings

     

  • Experience in implementing algorithms, developing research software

     

  • Experience in maintaining deep learning frameworks

     

  • Experience in Deep Learning frameworks: Keras and TensorFlow

     

  • Experience in medical data ontologies

     

  • Experience in GPU parallel implementation

 

Certification and Licensure

Other Information: This is a temporary grants position for up to one year reporting to Dr.Sabri Boughorbel in the division of Systems Biology and Immunology.
