Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Department: The Research Branch will house several hundred researchers working on many aspects of Fetomaternal health.  It will cover Translational and Patient-oriented research, Clinical studies and Bioinformatics research.  The Research Branch comprises two research floors totaling 10,000M2 and 9 smaller “satellite laboratories” throughout the hospital.  The Research Branch houses basic laboratories as well as state-of-the-art core facilities for genomics, deep phenotyping and imaging.
Person: The Post-Doctoral appointee will work within the Systems Biology department and conduct research in a number of scientific disciplines including but not limited to genetic studies, human immunology and systems biology. The research will be mainly focused on setting up and utilizing a novel platform for large-scale serological profiling to link individual genome and immune phenotype variation in health and disease. The post-doctoral fellow is supervised by the Principal Investigator (PI), and is responsible for experimental design and execution, scientific presentation and publication in line with the PI’s research program. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to be productive, interactive with other research personnel, and provide training to undergraduate and graduate students.    
Key Role Accountabilities:
  • Executes a grant-funded research study by designing and conducting experiments, and by generating research data;

  • Analyzes and processes research data using advanced analytical tools. Performs scientific research with the highest standards;

  • Conducts research data mining, and data management;

  • Works closely with the Principle Investigator and other research team members to ensure efficacy of the research project;

  • Ensures project completion time line in accordance with the rules and guidelines of the funding agency;

  • Presents and updates research progression in regular fashion and participates in scientific events internally and externally;

  • Publishes papers as results of the research  in high quality peer-reviewed journals;

  • Communicates results to the relevant scientific community via published papers and academic conference presentations, both locally and internationally;

  • Collaborates with other Sidra members and external collaborators (including international collaborators) to carry out the proposed research plan;

  • Travels occasionally to collaborating institutions for the purpose of the research study;

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.


In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this early operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills – Selection Criteria:





PhD in relevant field or MD



  • Academic research experience with publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and/or conferences during their academic training or work experience


  • Experience in biomedical research during their academic training or work experience


  • Demonstrable scientific excellence, including a reasonable track record of publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences.
  • Experience in working with high throughput technologies (next-generation sequencing and/or omics technologies)


  • Good knowledge in statistical and ‘big data’ analysis


  • Work experience in a clinical research laboratory setting/hospital-affiliated institution or in biotechnology industry

“The Post-Doctoral appointee will work within the Translational Medicine Division under the mentorship of Dr. Aouatef Ismail Chouchane and conduct research in a number of scientific disciplines including but not limited to genetic/genomic studies, human immunology and molecular biology. The research will be mainly focused on identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the human skin diseases. The post-doctoral fellow is supervised by the Principal Investigator (PI), and is responsible for experimental design and execution, scientific presentation and publication in line with the PI’s research program. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to be productive, interactive with other research personnel, and to provide training to undergraduate and graduate students.  Preferred qualifications include experience in human subjects research, processing of patient specimens, good knowledge in molecular and cellular techniques and data management and analysis.”
