Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Reproductive Medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with prevention, diagnosis and management of reproductive problems; goals include improving or maintaining reproductive health and allowing people to have children at a time of their choosing. The management of sub fertile couples and the development of assisted reproductive technology (ART) need a multidisciplinary approach and require subspecialist training in areas such as in endocrinology, andrology, reproductive surgery, reproductive biology, genetics, psychology and early pregnancy complications. Reproductive Medicine at Sidra is intended to be the sole provider of advanced assisted reproductive technology (ART) in Qatar - a service also commonly referred to as ‘in vitro fertilization / IVF’.

JOB SUMMARY:

We welcomed our first in-patients in January and will be ramping up our services during the rest of 2018 to reach full operational capacity.  One our most exciting developments will be the launch of our new Reproductive Medicine service within the Women’s Clinical Management Group (CMG), currently scheduled for September 2018.  This service is intended to be the sole provider of advanced assisted reproductive technology (ART) in Qatar.

Crucial to the success of this service is the role of Manager Laboratory, reporting to the Scientific Director- Laboratory for Reproductive Medicine. You as an experienced Reproductive Medicine laboratory manager with an embryologist background is required to requisite credentials to direct a CIVI/IVF laboratory; and with proven leadership skills. You will be responsible for all aspects of managing the laboratory and for developing world-class laboratory and associated clinical protocols.  In addition to staff management and development, the post holder will contribute to educational activities and to research.

A professionally registered license in relevant field in your country of origin, you will hold a MSc in Embryology preferably Post Graduate in a relevant (health related management subject). Most importantly you will have at least 7 years of experience handling Clinical Embryology and IVF treatments and 3+years experience in an ART laboratory environment and management of CIVI/IVF lab. Fluency in the English language is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate successful project management and achievement of consistent successful outcomes in patient satisfaction and operational performance.

Short-listed candidates will be asked to undertake psychometric assessment.  Interviews are likely to be held in the week commencing 29th April, 2018. 

 

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Leads in planning and setting program direction in accordance with organizational and departmental strategic goals and objectives and the development of departmental programs, policies, procedures and quality plans

  • Determines the fertility levels of individuals and suggests treatment options to Senior Physicians, participates in the decision-making

  • Provides daily oversight of all Reproductive Medicine IVF core laboratory personnel who are engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including initial training and orientation of new staff, planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed, reviewing typical work situations and handling procedural or technical laboratory problems

  • Serves as liaison between the laboratory and physicians and related clinical personnel. Performs laboratory quality control (QC), quality assessment (QA), and participates in quality improvement (QI) programs, record keeping and collection of data

  • Ensures reliability of testing procedures; monitor functioning and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; prepare applicable records summarizing results and efforts to the Scientific Director

  • Independently perform highly specialized embryology procedures required for IVF cycles, including medium and dish preparation, egg retrieval, sperm preparation, fertilization check, embryo evaluation, cryopreservation and thawing, transfer, ICSI, assisted hatching, and embryo biopsy

  • Performs reproductive endocrinology and andrology laboratory services, including blood hormone analysis, preparation of semen samples for artificial inseminations and IVF, cryopreservation of sperm, and complete sperm analysis assessed by World Health Organization (WHO) standards

  • Performs a variety of complex and independent activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and interpretation of laboratory data

  • Coordinates and participates in a variety of complex duties involved in the assisted reproduction including instructing other personnel in laboratory methods and procedures and facilitating the resolution of endocrinology, andrology, and embryology laboratory issues

  • Maintains records and data and prepares technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results; coordinate the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress and/or adverse trends

  • Reviews newly developed testing methods and procedures; refine procedures for laboratory application; setup laboratory equipment; standardize laboratory solutions and reagents

  • Maintains inventory of materials, supplies and equipment; reorder as required

  • Provides education to clinical staff, resident physicians, and new employees regarding current methods of assisted reproductive technologies and safety issues

  • Develops and implements world class laboratory and clinical protocols

  • Monitors laboratory standards and outcome measures according to organizational KPIs

  • Implements clinical and scientific governance protocols that align to Sidra’s organizational aims

  • Coordinates and is ultimately responsible for conducting daily analysis of laboratory activities, monitoring of key quality measures, governance procedures and quality control on a daily basis and as such has department-wide dissemination as their responsibility.

  • Accountable to the division chief for staff management, allocation and rostering and disciplinary activities of laboratory staff in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures within the Sidra managerial organization
  • Takes a lead role in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of laboratory staff as required

  • Organizes and leads regular staff meetings

  • Conducts regular performance appraisals of all reproductive medicine IVF core laboratory personnel in keeping with HR procedures and policies; recommends promotions, disciplinary action or termination of employment as appropriate

  • Teaches and mentors colleagues, fostering professional development goals of individuals within the team and promoting the success of the unit as a world class facility

  • Participates in the development and delivery of educational courses in embryology utilizing the departmental and organizational resources

  • Contributes to peer-reviewed publications on research topics relating to CIVI , IVF and or reproductive medicine

  • Contributes to research and publications in the relevant areas of embryology and reproductive medicine and represent this research at the appropriate forums

  • Performs other duties as assigned, and in keeping with the laboratory safety and regulatory policies, procedures and standards of patient care and initiatives toward continuous improvement at the individual and organizational level

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Embryology  
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant (health related management subject) 

Experience: 

  • 07+ years experience handling Clinical Embryology and IVF treatments.
  • 03+ years experience in an ART laboratory environment and management of CIVI/IVF lab.
  • Experience in leading research in human reproduction related field.
  • Familiarity with JCI or equivalent accreditation standards.
  • Must have experience in a new laboratory set up.

Certification and Licensure:

  • Appropriate licensing in country of origin (e.g. HCPC in the UK, or equivalent in other jurisdictions). 

 

 Professional Membership:

  • Membership of International society (e.g. HCLD or ELD from ABB in the US, or equivalent in other jurisdictions).
  • Position of responsibility on national body / accreditation board
