The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist I demonstrates proficiency in the performance of cardiopulmonary evaluation, respiratory therapy treatment techniques, and education of the patient, family and public. The incumbent possesses appropriate level of knowledge of Blood Gas Sampling and analysis, Pediatric and or Neonatal Respiratory Care. He/she possesses clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in Respiratory Care for the Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient population; demonstrates strong, General Care, Emergency Care & Critical Care level professional patient assessment. Additionally, he/she demonstrates critical thinking and analytical skills relevant to disease identification and the evaluation and administration of clinical therapeutic, interventional, and diagnostic Respiratory Care. The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for ensuring that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and participates in the supervision and teaching of junior and new members of staff within the department.

Key Role Accountabilities:
  • Assists with all Respiratory Care modalities including diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional modalities. Performs specialty procedures under the guidance of advanced practitioners.
  • Provides unit based specialty expertise in the performance of routine and critical care clinical procedures and interventions.
  • Acts in the role of Preceptor for oncoming staff in areas of expertise.
  • Participates in peer evaluations for new staff.
  • Ensures effective communication during handover, and end of Shift Report to ensure that the patient’s needs for continuity of care and level of care are met.
  • Collaborates with all medical, nursing and ancillary stakeholders to provide a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Maintains an accurate and current patient medical record within the approved documentation system.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning patient care.
  • Provides input and evidence-based standards in formulating patient care policy and procedures for Respiratory Therapy patients.
  • Maintains working relationships and solicits input from physicians and other healthcare personnel to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance, Utilization Review and Performance improvement activities as required.
  • Provides emergency care as a member of Resuscitation, Rapid Response, and Transport Team as required.
  • Maintains Respiratory Therapy clinical skills, Collaborates with clinical educators in planning, implementation and evaluation of staff and patient education.
  • Integrates research findings into practice planning and, where appropriate, participates in the generation  off of new knowledge
  • Fosters good public relations for the project.
  • Integrates ethical considerations and processes in all areas of planning and patient care.
  • Demonstrates transcultural principles in Respiratory Care practice.
  • Participates in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication and teamwork. Treats colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Actively welcomes and provides support for new staff/students to the unit. Contributes to the retention of all staff to meet the departmental specific turnover rate goal.  Participates in retention activities.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times.  Acts as a role model for junior staff.
  • Upholds the organizational values at all times.
  • Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

 

Essential/Preferred Requirements:

 

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 year Diploma in Respiratory Therapy.

 

Experience

  • 2+ years relevant Pediatric/ Neonatal experience.
  • Experience with clinical Information systems either as an end user.

 

  • Pediatric or Neonatal Transport Experience.

Certification and Licensure

  • Current Respiratory Therapy license for country of origin.
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP and PALS or equivalent.

 

Professional Membership

  • Member of Professional Respiratory Care Association in Country of Origin.
