Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

We welcomed our first in-patients in January and will be ramping up our services during the rest of 2018 to reach full operational capacity.  One our most exciting developments will be the launch of our new Reproductive Medicine service within the Women’s Clinical Management Group (CMG), currently scheduled for September 2018.  This service is intended to be the sole provider of advanced assisted reproductive technology (ART) in Qatar.

Crucial to the success of this service is the role of Scientific Director / Director of Laboratories.  Reporting to the Division Chief for Reproductive Medicine, you will have responsibility for scientific standards within the department, including development and validation of various complex laboratory procedures, initiating, leading and performing research and managing a team.  You will have an initial requirement to set up the laboratory and its equipment, and to establish policies and procedures.

A professionally registered clinical scientist in your country of origin, you will hold a PhD in a subject related to reproductive medicine and will have worked as an Embryologist or in a related discipline.  Most importantly you will have at least eight years’ experience as the director or manager of a CIVI/IVF laboratory.  Fluency in the English language is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate successful project management and achievement of consistent successful outcomes in patient satisfaction and operational performance.

    • Works independently and identifies improvements, enhancements and innovations in assigned work area to support high quality scientific, laboratory and research outcomes.

    • Establishes and maintains a functional and effective operational laboratory environment.

    • Makes recommendations to the Medical Director regarding decisions that have a service quality and commercial impact.

    • Works in close collaboration with the physician leadership to develop the strategic direction and operational blueprint of the Core Laboratory.

    • Drives the design, development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern the delivery of core laboratory services.

    • Maintains practice operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing practice operational policies, procedures, and HIPAA & safety standards.

    • Assists and participates in ongoing Quality Improvement and Risk Management initiatives.

    • Establishes, directs and manages all procedures and operations in the Reproductive Medicine core laboratory.

    • Develops, implements and ensures compliance with all policies procedures and SOP’s as dictated by relevant regulatory agencies and their standards.

    • Develops and implements all laboratory processes, standards and quality improvement to ensure best clinical outcomes.

    • Responsible for the development, establishment and maintenance of all records and data within the core laboratory.

    • Actively directs all laboratory procedures related to patient infertility protocols.

    • Directs all education programs for clinical staff, resident physicians, and new employees regarding current methods of assisted reproductive technologies and safety issues.

    • Works closely with the Clinical Director to align scientific development with the divisional scientific agenda.

    • Leads initiatives to improve clinical practices and processes to ensure smooth daily operations, identifies improvement opportunities and actively seeks problem resolution.

    • Establishes and maintains the scientific accreditation, regulation, protocols and procedures of the CIVI/IVF laboratory.

    • Works closely with and supervises the Laboratory Manager and staff to ensure maintenance of high pregnancy rates and achievement of consistent outcomes in operational performance and patient satisfaction.
  • Takes responsibility for the professional and competency development of the scientific staff.
  • Demonstrates visible leadership and ensures effective communication with and involvement of all staff within the department in regards to key decisions and initiatives, achieving enhanced buy-in.
  •  Manages shifting priorities within the division and focuses resources to achieve optimum outcomes.
  • Takes a project management approach to ensure activities are delivered in full, in a timely fashion and within budget.
  • Promotes a culture of excellent, efficient and quality service delivery in a congenial, supportive, collaborative and equitable environment.
  • Identifies and coordinates resolution of problems to improve quality of scientific and laboratory services and patient satisfaction.

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Embryology
  • PhD in Reproductive Medicine
  • Postgraduate Management qualification


  • 08+ years experience at senior management level working within in a CIVI/IVF Laboratory.
  • Experience of leading research in human reproduction related field.
  • Experience as clinical scientist in Embryology/ Andrology or related discipline.
  • Experience of project management. 

Certification and Licensure:

  • Appropriate licensing in country of origin (e.g. HCPC in the UK, or equivalent in other jurisdictions). 


 Professional Membership:

  • Membership of International society (e.g. HCLD or ELD from ABB in the US, or equivalent in other jurisdictions).
  • Position of responsibility on national body / accreditation board 


Job Specific Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated expert skills and contemporary knowledge of human embryology, andrology and endocrinology including PGT
  • Demonstrated experience of managing across multiple sites
