Job Summary:

Reporting to the Division Chief - Reproductive Medicine , the Medical Director – IVF provides clinical operational and educational leadership for the IVF service based in the Sidra OPC building.   

S/he will be a clinical, educational and managerial leader working with the executive team to develop and deliver: finalized Reproductive Health workflows, education, activation scheduling required for the development activation and established day to day operation of the department.

In the context of the opening of this greenfield site, this includes constituting the Interprofessional teams that will provide the clinical care of the patients. 

The primary goal will be to allow the IVF Service department to open safely, and build to an efficient clinical care pathway that will meet the needs of the Qatari population, as defined by the Ministry of Public Health (formally Supreme Council of Health), and the appropriate Service Level agreements with Hamad Medical Corporation.  The scope of practice for individual caregivers is governed by the Qatar Council for Health Care Practitioners.

The Medical Director provides oversight, and, is responsible for ensuring that an appropriate curriculum for the the educational and testing of the IVF departmental staff.  The model of care is an Interprofesional Team. The MD, with the clinic leadership, allied health, and operations branch will determine the readiness of the IVF department for opening and subsequent operation. 

The Medical Director has the authority to mandate each of these stakeholders to remedy or correct gaps in operational readiness discovered during the activation process.  The Medical Director  has the ultimate  authority to determine if and when the IVF department is ready to begin and expand patient care activity.

The individual occupying this position reports directly to the Division Chief - Reproductive Medicine and works cooperatively with the Operations, Allied health and Nursing teams and other stakeholders clinicians and patients. 

The Medical Director provides oversight and is responsible for ensuring  the appropiatness and quality of service and care is continually provided to all patients, their families and other hospital staff as prescribed in the patient care and facility standards set down by Sidra Medical and Research Center (and applicable national Standards) This includes ensuring that the clinical services required are available, with appropriate coverage for all events, and that the departmental resources are managed efficiently. 

The Medical Director – IVF provides oversight, and, is responsible for ensuring that processes are in place to  ensure appropriate monitoring of the quality of the care provided within the IVF service working with the Director of Quality and Safety .  This includes a process for identifying problems if they should ensue, and developing effective strategies for improving and optimizing outcomes on a continual basis.  


Key Role Accountabilities:
  • In conjunction with the Division Chief - Reproductive Medicine and individual Medical Leads ensures that the work flows, volumes, outputs, and related clinical and infrastructure dependencies of the IVF service are planned. 
  • With the Medical Lead, leads the implementation of strategies to achieve the safe operational opening of the IVF service .
  • Promotes a culture of excellent, efficient and quality service delivery in a congenial, supportive, collaborative and equitable environment.
  • Works collaboratively with other division chiefs, directors and all other division staff to ensure that cohesive, cross functional teams are developed.
  • Provides oversight in the development and implementation of the appropriate policies and procedures required to guide and support the provision of safe and effiecient patient care, within Reproductive Health.  
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate processes for monitoring of the quality of the medical care provided within Reproductive Health are in place.
  • Responsible for ensuring a process for identifying problems if they should arise, and a process for continuous quality improvement to improve and correct problems identified, and optimize outcomes on a continual basis is in place.
  • Ensures that the staff of Reproductive Health provide services that are in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Qatar Supreme Health Council, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Provides oversight and participates with Reproductive Health department leadership in  creating and managing budgets for the Outpatients Center.
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of capital and other equipment with input from departmental stakeholders.
  •  Ensures that appropriate training and use policies are in place to  ensure the safe and efficient use of all equipment and devices.
  • Sets and achieves targets to drive continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided  and develops a framework for continuous process improvement for problems or deficiencies identified.
  • Ensures all members of the department optimize the use of electronic medical records.
  • In conjunction with the Division Chief - Reproductive Medicine ensures the implementation of robust clinical governance structures and processes to ensure patient safety.
  • As directed by the CMO, and in colloboration with Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar, Hamad Medical Corporation Post-graduate Medical Education Department, and other post-graduate medical education stakeholders,  ensures that appropriate arrangements for Learners to participate in patient care and teaching within the department of Reproductive Medicine. Provides support for programs to mentor and support students.
  • Ensures effective communication with and involvement of all staff within the department in regards to key decisions and initiatives.
  • Participates in programs designed to foster positive relations between physicians and the hospital operations and administration.
  • Assists with marketing strategies to inform physicians ,their staff and the public of Sidra’s Reproductive Medicine programs, services and resources. 
  • Identifies and coordinates resolution of problems to improve physician utilization and patient satisfaction.
  • In view of the developing and changing needs and opportunities within Sidra during this start-up phase, the Medical Director – IVF may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by the CMO. Reporting relationships may vary.

Scope of clinical responsibilities

  •  As there is also direct clinical responsibilities related to the role of Medical Director – IVF it is expected that the MD will participate in direct patient care within the department whilst maintaining a presence as a front line care provider.
  • Participates in community outreach programs and  initiatives undertaken by Sidra as required and as appropriate .
  • Observes and implements departmental and applicable organizational policies, procedures, regulations and information to the Department of Reproductive Medicine
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, and maintains patient confidentiality at all times
  • Attends divisional and other meetings as requested. Serves on Departmental, Hospital, and University Committees, as requested

 In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


• MD or equivalent qualifications (MBBCS & MBBch)
• Residency Training in Pediatric or Women’s with completion of appropriate Board Certification
• Experience as a program director or leader within Post-graduate medical education preferred.


• 10 + years of post-certification/residency in clinical care or education in relevant field from a North American Academic/ Health care  Institution  or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, or other European Countries with accredited and recognized board, Australia and New Zealand.

• 3+ years in Academic leadership


• Active license for Reproductive Health and IVF in Home country. 
• Appropriate specialty board certification
