Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

DEPARTMENT/BRANCH PROFILE:

The Sidra Biomedical Engineering Department (BME) is a results oriented and quality driven department that utilizes the various skills and capabilities of its staff as required in fulfilling its responsibilities towards the organization. Reporting through Support Services the BME’s main responsibility is to assess, plan, review and operate services to manage the fully digital and paperlite environment of advanced and integrated medical and specialized testing equipment in a secure and safe working environment. The department utilizes a quality management system and is to be compliant with JCIA and all its reporting requirements.

JOB SUMMARY:

Working as a senior member of the Biomedical Engineering team, the Manager - Equipment Planning plays a key role in planning and acquisition of medical equipment and associated technology at SRMC. The Manager works collaboratively with clinical users and other stakeholders and leads or participates in client meetings to facilitate strategic direction for programming and medical planning. The Manager provides leadership and oversight for the design and delivery of medical equipment/technology replacement projects. The ideal candidate brings a passion for cutting edge technology, and a consistent desire to raise the bar and innovate. He/ She brings extensive experience in healthcare planning and design, in addition to evidence of strong clinical client relationships, and also brings leadership skills and an ability to design and develop new work flow and processes.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
       
  • Evaluates medical equipment and related systems with respect to age, condition, and technological
    status and recommends appropriate disposition to Director - BME.

  • Uses a team approach in implementing the equipment planning process.

  • Reviews assembled medical equipment specifications and coordinates review of healthcare systems
    vendor drawings.

  • Participates as needed in the development of detailed medical equipment brochures.

  • Develops scheduling data for medical equipment planning processes.

  • Coordinates equipment delivery and installation schedules with the owner's representative and
    medical equipment planner.

  • Participates in multiple and diverse healthcare construction projects simultaneously.

  • Assists the Director - BME in selecting medical equipment and related systems.

  • Generates and analyzes RFPs and provides value analysis of competitive medical equipment
    systems.

  • Prepares project cost estimates for inclusion in Director - BME proposals.

  • Participates in marketing efforts, including preparing initial marketing material, RFPs and formal
    presentations.

  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups
    that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations

  • Liaises closely with the Senior Clinicians and Management across SRMC.

  • Liaises with various Project Managers, with the Finance and Materials Management departments.

  • Works closely with all to ensure that decisions made are carried through.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

 

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA:

Education

Bachelor's Degree Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related health field.

Experience

  • 5+ years of Senior management experience including at least 7+ years of equipment planning experience in a Healthcare setting.
  • Experience with medical equipment in a hospital environment is required.
  • Experience with medical equipment planning software is mandatory (experience with Attainia preferred).

  • High level of skill  in developing equipment and budget management reports is required with advanced Excel skills.

  • Knowledge in MS Project or Primavera.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
