Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chair of Emergency, The Division Chief of Emergency Medicine provides clinical, educational, research and executive management leadership in the Division of Emergency Medicine including Urgent Care. S/he will be a clinical and managerial leader working with the Sidra executive team to develop and deliver strategy and business plans and is accountable for resources and performance in the Division of Emergency Medicine and to integrate research and education priorities into a program of excellent clinical service delivery.

The Department of Emergency Medicine will provide specialized outpatient clinical services including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for complex and complicated medical presentations, consultations, case management, and other associated clinical and academic activities managed in this Division.

The Division Chief will have a full-time appointment to Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar.
Key Role and Accountability:
  • Identifies and articulates the vision, strategic direction, and growth of the Division of Emergency Medicine and collaborates on the implementation of strategies to achieve them.

  • Leads clinical service planning, service development and capacity planning for the activities of emergency services.

  • Promotes leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention, and direct mission of excellence for the medical staff, and collaborates with the other Chiefs to execute the strategies.

  • Recommends clinical privileges, appointment, reappointment and corrective action for each member of the Division of Emergency Medicine, as well as promoting mentorship and academic career development for these individuals.

  • Responsible for administrative related activities of the Division of Emergency Medicine unless otherwise provided for by the hospital, and serves on all requested committees and appointing such committees as necessary to conduct the function of the department.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide support provision of services to the Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care Clinic services.

  • Continue surveillance of the professional performance of all individuals in the Division of Emergency Medicine who have delineated clinical privileges, including performance, including ongoing and focused professional practice evaluations (OPPE and FPPE).

  • Continue surveillance of patient care and the professional performance of all individuals in the Division of Emergency Medicine who have defined clinical privileges.

  • Ensures that the staff of the Division of Emergency Medicine provides services that are in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Qatar Supreme Health Council, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.

  • Accountable for the financial performance, and management of budgets within the Division of Emergency Medicine.

  • Implements the clinical service strategies and business plan for the Division of Emergency Medicine.

  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of capital and other equipment and participate in the evaluation of products for use by different members of the Division of Emergency Medicine to ensure their safety and efficacy.

  • Sets and achieve targets to drive continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided and initiates actions for necessary improvements according to Sidra Board initiatives.

  • Works with the Chair of Service to establish and update the work week standards for all physicians on staff and assures that there is appropriate clinical coverage for all patients requiring medical care from the Division of Emergency Medicine.

  • Ensures all members of the Division of Emergency Medicine optimize the use of electronic medical records.

  • Sets and achieves targets for programs and procedures for confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with hospital policy and the privacy laws of the State of Qatar.

  • In conjunction with the Chair of Emergency Service ensures the implementation of robust clinical governance structures and processes to ensure patient safety.

  • Is actively involved in research, graduate teaching, and publication in higher impact refereed journals, advising of students and participation in academic services.

  • Ensures effective communication with and involvement of all staff within the division in regards to key decisions and initiatives.

  • Works collaboratively with other service chiefs, division chiefs, and executive directors to achieve broad Sidra objectives. 

  • Conducts other duties as may be directed by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer.

  • Initiates, implements and oversees programs designed to foster positive relations between physicians and the hospital operations and administration.

  • Assists with marketing strategies to inform physicians and their staff of Sidra clinical diagnostic procedures, services and resources. 

  • Promotes and evaluates physician community outreach programs as appropriate.

  • Develops, manages and supports physician and community relationships, coordinating and disseminating information to all stakeholders to solicit ongoing support from the State of Qatar.

  • Promotes outreach and communications with non-Sidra to providers of emergency care and urgent care to help Sidra function as the premier regional emergency center of the Gulf Region.

  • Identifies and coordinates resolution of problems to improve physician utilization and patient satisfaction.                                                               

  • In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • MD degree (or equivalent)
  • Residency Training in pediatric medicine (or equivalent).
  • Subspecialty Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (or equivalent training or certification).


  • 10 plus years clinical experience.
  • 3 plus years in Academic leadership as Chairman of Emergency Medicine and/or Division Chief of Emergency Medicine.

Certification and Licensure

  • Active License to practice medicine in home country (or equivalent certifications)

  • Proficient in Clinical Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care, Research, Education, Management, Communications, Innovation.
  • Specific clinical, administrative, and business skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
