Department/Branch Profile: Sidra’s Department of Medical Informatics will lead the diffusion of analytics and innovation in the fields of Clinical, Research, Education and Operational Informatics.  In close partnership with the Supreme Council of Health, the Research Institutes of Qatar Foundation and the Universities within and outside Education City, the Department of Health Informatics will ensure that Sidra Medical and Research Center’s informatics needs are met by the information systems for optimum patient outcome, operational decision making, innovation and discovery.  The Department of Health Informatics scope of systems includes amongst others the Clinical Information System, branded PEARLPatient Electronically Accessible Record for Life.
Job Summary: The Clinical Informaticist is the key liaison with nursing, allied health, clinical administrative support, other patient care areas including undergraduate students for the  adoption of health informatics strategies for effective patient care, education and research. S/he co-ordinates all aspects of planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical information solutions including PEARL. S/he analyzes complex clinical operations and structure processes to facilitate decision-making regarding clinical systems, clinical transformation, integration of technology, information requirements and applications. S/he utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for clinical transformation and informatics applications. The incumbent is responsible to ensure all clinical information systems are consistent with professional standards of practice. Serves as a translator of clinical input into informatics specifications.
Key Role Accountabilities:
  • Applies clinical informatics and clinical transformation principles and practices in all aspects clinical transformation to deliver a high quality, safe and effective PEARL solutions, integrating systems and technology into clinical practice, with high levels of adoption by clinicians and supports clinical education and research.

  • Prioritizes and sequences critical informatics projects using clinical acumen and articulate the key patient care related benefits for broader dissemination.

  • Co-ordinates input from clinicians, other health care team members, patients and their families to optimize the clinical informatics solutions and ensure effective adoption to improve health care.

  • Provides expert clinical informatics advice to clinically driven venue based committees, clinicians and associated staff to increase clinical adoption improves and enhances the clinical informatics solutions in support of excellence in patient care, education and research.

  • Leads collaboration across health informatics services, information management and health information management to address clinical informatics improvements, enhancements and clinical transformation.

  • Participates in clinical informatics research initiatives to support the clinical transformation council’s improvements, and the continued development of clinical informatics body of knowledge that can be applied locally, nationally and internationally.

  • Maintains currency in trends, application and science of health informatics and contributes to the health informatics body of knowledge.

  • Co-chairs one of the clinical transformation councils to deliver clinical informatics solutions that meet the clinical and patient requirements, with high level of adoption by clinicians, associated staff and patients/families, for the provision of high quality safe patient care.

  • Leads the analysis and definition of clinical informatics solutions to meet clinical and patient requirements, and increase adoption and optimization of solutions utilizing best practice clinical informatics and clinical transformation principles.

  • Translates clinical requests into clinical informatics specifications and manages delivery of new and enhanced clinical informatics solutions, including providing direction on design, testing, and education, relevant to scope of health informatics service.

  • Provides regular reports and presentations to PEARL executive committees on the deployment, optimization and innovation of clinical informatics solutions and issues.

  • Undertakes clinical informatics research projects in collaboration with the other health informatics teams including research informatics to develop effective innovative clinical informatics solutions and contribute to body of knowledge.

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies


In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:






Bachelor’s Degree in Health information management or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing/Allied health ( with medical informatics certification)

Master’s degree in Health information management


5 + years clinical experience in an academic medical centre including use and participation in implementation of clinical information systems, including 2 years experience in clinical informatics, management, education or clinical research.

7 + years clinical experience in an academic medical centre including use and participation in implementation of clinical information systems, including 5years’ experience in informatics, management, education or research.

Certification and Licensure


Valid professional Nursing or Allied Health Professional Registration/Licensure in country of origin

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health care continuum from patient home, ambulatory care including urgent care, and all aspects of inpatient care.


  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to priorities clinical informatics issues.


  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply systems development methodologies including the Systems Development Life Cycle.


  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally with range of internal and external stakeholders including a range of health care professionals, managers and administrative staff.


  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication skills, consensus building and negotiation skills to provide win- win outcomes.


  • Proficiency in all aspects of information communication technologies (ICT) at level of ICDL e- citizen.


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite


  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
