DEPARTMENT/ BRANCH PROFILE: The Infrastructure and Operations department enables Sidra Medical and Research Center to provide a reliable and resilient infrastructure that provides continuous and effective healthcare and life-science research services. The department assures stakeholder, shareholders and public confidence in Sidra Medical and Research center capability to lead the development of healthcare and life-science research Industry through a state of the art infrastructure designed with high availability and robust technology. It assures information stability, continuity, integrity and availability by providing organizational leadership in developing and promoting state-of-the-art programs and technologies.
JOB SUMMARY: The Database Administrator - Oracle is responsible for overall management, administration, operation and support of the highly complex and mission-critical oracle databases on a 24x7 environment. The incumbent plans, designs and administers the enterprise wide databases, including database definition, structures, documentations, requirements, operational guidelines, and security and control guidelines. S/he develops security protocols and maintains security and integrity controls across all databases. S/he formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management and assists in the training of database functionality to users.  
  • Manages and monitors oracle database environment including but not limited to ensuring database availability , performance tuning, backup and recovery, planning database software lifecycle and disaster recovery
  • Ensures adherence to enterprise standards/compliance.
  • Provides common standards across all databases and change documentations.
  • Designs, develops and manages Oracle databases and troubleshoots debugs to evaluate and resolves software issues.
  • Identifies, installs and configures upgrades for Oracle database environments.
  • Participates in the planning, designing, implementing, and testing of modified database configurations
  • Implements and maintains database systems for performance, high availability, scalability and recoverability.
  • Participates in on-going evaluations, improvements, and automation of DBA procedures
  • Investigates reviews, applies and tests all update patches and bug fixes in the database environment and provides consultation on patch management.
  • Manages user security and access to databases to ensure highly controlled access environment
  • Installs server-based application software’s in coordination with Head - Systems, and Installs new software, upgrades and fixes.
  • Plans, prepares and tests backup and recovery procedures for both production/non-production databases
  • Investigates and resolves issues associated with replication conflicts and issues.
  • Monitors databases for efficiency and reorganizes databases for optimal performance during scheduled down time.
  • Works with application vendors to build and configure application databases including collecting and documenting  application requirements, building databases per requirements, providing testing and troubleshooting support to application teams
  • Manages extended Oracle RAC across two data centers.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies


In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.






  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or computer engineering



  • 8 Years as an Oracle DBA.
  • Must have expert knowledge of Oracle RAC 11gR2.
  • Experience in configuring/managing environments with failover, high availability, and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Experience with backup technologies(RMAN/Export/Import) and strategies oriented around the backup and restoration of large datasets
  • Experience on Oracle Enterprise manager 12c.
  • Experience with SQL scripting and database performance optimization
  • Expert Knowledge of Oracle 11gR2 and exposure toOracle12c
  • Experience of administering Oracle 11g R2 and MS SQL Server 2012 or 2014
  • Hands on experience on performance analysis, database capacity planning and DB monitoring.

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Index Management, space management & database security.
  • Strong knowledge on upgrading Oracle RAC and Database.
  • Must have worked in virtualized environment (Oracle VM).
  • Must have hands on experience of disaster recovery & continuity planning for databases.
  • Must have knowledge of Shell scripting.
  • Extensive hands on experience on Oracle RAC and Data Guard.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Database Administration (DBA) best practices for performance and growth optimization
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Experience with EMC SAN technologies
  • Knowledge of Virtualization.
