The Department of Psychiatry will provide world class child and adolescent and women mental health services at Sidra Medical. The Department of Psychiatry will provide outstanding education to the medical students, residents and fellows. The Department of Psychiatry will foster the innovative clinical and basic research in the field of child and adolescent Psychiatry and women mental health. The Department of Psychiatry coordinates its medical services and collaborates its research and educational activities with Hamad Medical Corporation and Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar. It is anticipated that by providing specialist and subspecialist expertise in an integrated team environment and concomitantly conducting research, Sidra will become a substantive referral center for patients within Qatar and the region.


The Clinical Director – Psychology (PhD) is responsible for leading high level administrative functions of Psychological Services in the Department of Psychiatry. The incumbent is responsible for instruction, direction, and performance appraisal to meet the professional standards for all Psychologists employed at Sidra. He/ she is an outstanding clinician responsible for developing, teaching and training students and trainees, leading psychological research as well as meeting their clinical duties.

  • Leads psychologists operating in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Directs and coordinates clinical activities, standards of care, treatment, and comprehensive services.

  • Takes the lead on formulating current and long-range programs, goals and plans for the department along with Chair and Division Chiefs of the Department.

  • Develops and recommends new/revised policies and procedures involving clinical methods and practices.

  • Diagnoses and manages a wide variety of psychological conditions.

  • Selects and assigns staff, ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotions, identifies staff development needs and ensures that training is provided

  • Ensures optimal psychology coverage at all times across Sidra in various settings including consultation/Liaison, Emergency Department, clinics and inpatient units.

  • Mentors psychology staff and trainees; Teaches undergraduate and/or graduate level clinical courses to students, interns, residents, fellows and other professionals in the evidence-based practice of clinical psychology.

  • Provides therapy and assessment supervision of clinical students and trainees.

  • Keeps abreast with new developments in medical treatment and techniques; adapts them to the specific needs of the department.

  • Provides suggestions with regard to operating problems, department budgetary matters, personnel matters, technical problems, and the status of programs and projects.

  • Meets with Department Chair and Division Chiefs to discuss programs and problems and provides clinical leadership.

  • Undertakes the performance appraisal to meet the professional standards of Psychologists.

  • Advises staff in the resolution of sensitive, complex, or precedent-setting situations; determines appropriate course of action; assigns responsibilities and monitors actions and responses.

  • Evaluates the seriousness of issues and makes decisions regarding the most effective and suitable treatment options.

  • Ensures the procurement and availability of state of the art psychological instruments to deliver the best patient care.

  • Initiates outreach programs to connect with the community thus raising awareness around mental health issues.

  • Formulates and implements plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of psychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

  • Undertakes clinical activity by implementing a range of psychological interventions, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

  • Evaluates and makes decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual.

  • Provides specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to patient’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

  • Undertakes risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and provides general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.

  • Acts as Lead for Psychological research; publishes in peer reviewed journals.

  • Prepares scientific and technical reports or presentations; Presents at National & International level at the conferences.

  • Initiates involvement in service development and expansion. Has a key role in developing services, multi-professional liaison and consultation.

  • Provide on call responsibilities as needed.

  • Provides individual or group therapy for children and families, in both inpatient and outpatient settings as needed.  Ensures that patient participation and input is integrated with the overall treatment plan.

  • Ensures program plans for psychological services are developed in compliance with departmental policy and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains confidentiality with regards to information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with departmental guidelines.

  • Apply for Weill Cornell Medicine appointment which would be according to the credentials.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.



  • PhD in Clinical Psychology


  • 10+ years’ experience as a practicing clinical psychologist which includes 5+ years in the area of Psychology Departmental leadership role in an academic setting or comparable

Certification and Licensure

  • Current License in country of origin as a Psychologist
  • Eligible for license in State of Qatar after on-boarding

Professional Membership

  • Relevant National/ International Association

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in theoretical psychological techniques and expertise in  providing consultations

  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and providing consultation to child/ young adult patients

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership experience in a high-quality, patient- and family-centered care organization.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices, current theories, practices, current developments, and trends in the field of mental health.

  • Knowledge of the organization and operation of a mental health facility or clinic.

  • Ability to interpret treatment programs to relatives and staff.

  • Excellent people skills, and the ability to work well with often challenging and differing perspectives

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
