Department Profile and Job Summary: The Division of Education and Research delivers a range of education, professional development and orientation services to clinicians across Sidra. The division is committed to providing a quality learning environment by aligning competency based education with the requirements of clinical practice inclusive of patient, environmental, and staff needs.  Evidence based curricula that are culturally appropriate, effective and safe will be our hallmark.  Educational delivery will be multi-faceted and based on the needs of the organization/learners.  All educational initiatives will be evaluated to provide information about curricula effectiveness and learner competence to support a culture of patient safety.  Educators will be expected to work closely with clinical leaders and staff nurses in the practice setting to identify gaps in health service delivery/education and design/deliver/assess new curriculum. All educators are expected to role model behaviors consistent with the Sidra Organizational/Education Competency Framework.
Job Summary:
    The Educator is a key member of the educational leadership team and the respective medical unit leadership teams, supporting department and the organization’s strategic direction. As a key member, the educator ensures that educational initiatives and processes support the standards for nursing care, Sidra policies, and regulatory requirements.  The Educator works collaboratively with respective unit leads in supporting the maintenance of competence in Sidra employees.  The Educator uses the standardized templates and assessment tools to deliver and assess educational initiatives for effectiveness in meeting employee/family needs and satisfaction. The post holder identifies risks in educational processes, informing leadership and actively participating in managing timely solutions.  The post holder manages educational resources. The post holder works as a Clinical Nurse Leader in the practice setting one day a week, and participates in the Simulation lab one half day a week.
Requirements:

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • 5+ years of clinical experience in the relevant field within a North American Academic Institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand
  • 2+ years of recent experience in an educator role or supervisory role with educator responsibilities in the relevant field
  • Current Nursing License from country of origin
  • Ability to think critically and communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to manage constant change, including technological developments
  • Demonstrated Skills/ ability to convey knowledge in various ways
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Education or Nursing related field
  • Certificate/diploma in leadership, education or attendance at a course
  • 7+ years in relevant practice setting in a Pediatric Hospital
  • 5+ years’ experience in pediatric educator/manager role in a Pediatric Hospital
  • Strong knowledge in theories of teaching, learning and evaluation
Skills and Qualifications:

 

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

     

  • One Year Post Graduate Diploma or Master’s Degree in Education or related field

 

Experience

  • 5+ years of inpatient medical experience inclusive of 2+ years of relevant managerial and/or coordinating experience in a Pediatric Hospital in a North American Academic Institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand.

     

  • 3+ years of recent experience as a Nurse Educator in a Pediatric Hospital in a Pediatric Hospital in a North American Academic Institutionor equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand or Appropriate Education with no break of practice and with clinical experience

     

  • Minimum 3+ years post above required qualification in nursing education
  • 7+ years in relevant practice setting in a Pediatric Hospital

     

  • 5+ years’ experience in pediatric educator/manager role in a Pediatric Hospital

Certification and Licensure

Current Nursing License from country of origin

Certificate/diploma in leadership, education or attendance at a course
