Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Our interprofessional teams will work collaboratively to secure wellness optimizing patient/family outcomes to contribute to Sidra’s reputation as a high reliability organization. Clinical research focused on education, quality improvements and a culture of patient and family safety will be used to inform and guide best practice standards. 

At Sidra Medical and Research Center, the professional practice of nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well, and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness and the care of ill, disabled and those requiring end of life care. Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy and in patient and health systems management, and education are also key nursing roles. Nursing embraces a culture of nursing care which is energized by the work of the organization’s members in every position and all members are equal participants in the co-creation of shared values and outcomes.



The Executive Director – Nursing Continuous Education and Professional Practice Development provides high level nursing leadership, strategic direction and advocacy for the clinical management group at Sidra Medical and Research Center.  Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Executive Director – Nursing Continuous Education and Professional Practice Development is responsible for providing professional nursing  and managerial leadership and ensuring that  established nursing standards  are adhered to in order to deliver safe patient and family focused care. Leadership responsibilities include overseeing recruitment, commissioning, onboarding, orientation and service activation in accordance with Sidra’s plans and timelines. 

The Executive Director – Nursing Continuous Education and Professional Practice Development  is also responsible for ensuring that all recommendations, decisions, directions and actions made and associated with this role are carried out in accordance with and support the strategy, values, guiding principles and nursing standards of Sidra Medical and Research Center.


  • Promotes the recognition and value of nursing contribution and encourages a culture of professional academic publications with the nursing team.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the nursing workforce is fit to practice and that regular updates are in place.
  • Provides strategic leadership to the department to ensure development of a capable workforce with the skill mix to ensure objectives and targets are met.
  • Ensure all nurses and professional staff are able to achieve professional development and benefit from appropriate continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensures the supply of quality services in terms of service delivery, efficiency, cost effectiveness and professionalism.
  • Provides timely, accurate and considered strategic management advice to the Chief nursing officer to ensure the department achieves its strategic and operational objectives and targets.
  • Ensures human, financial and physical resources within the department are utilized effectively and efficiently, ensuring budget and performance targets are met.
  • Establishes communication  with key stakeholders both internal and external in a timely, appropriate and effective manner to develop and maintain excellent ongoing communication
  • Recommends and collaborates with in-service education programs to promote staff development.
  • Implements the area of responsibility in line with the National Health strategy of the Ministry of Public Health and Qatar’s National Development Strategy.
  • Develops and maintains a network of cooperative relationships at local, national and international level and amongst individuals, groups and organizations.
  • Fosters multidisciplinary working relations, strengthening the interface between different locations of care.
  • Ensure all designated clinical learning environments adhere to the nursing professional standards and comply with the Ministry of Public Health and University to support newly qualified clinical nurses.
  • Work collaboratively with academic partners to support undergraduate programs for nursing.
  • Acts as a champion for patients and their families by using the public and patient feedback to influence outcomes in the policy development and decision making of the Family Centered Services.
  • Leads practice evaluation including comparative effectiveness and technology and develops research around this concept.
  • Develop new programs for nursing in collaboration with other key stakeholders
  • Supports and provides education on best practice based on international models and on new Sidra model.
  • Contributes to nursing research relevant to areas of practice.
  • Follows the financial plan, actual spending and monitors outputs while maintaining within budget.
  • Monitors progress towards set targets and provides transparency through a standardized system to report effectiveness and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Using evidence based practice, ensures clinical effectiveness in nursing research.
  • Prepares papers for publication on behalf of Family Centered Services Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Revises the model of nursing using international best practice to develop the Sidra model.
  • Empower the nursing professional workforce to ensure efficiency.
  • Maintains high visibility in clinical areas and maintains clinical competence and credibility in nursing.
  • Remain professionally up to date in nursing best practices and licensure.
  • In partnership with the interdisciplinary teams, identifies and supports new opportunities for innovation
  • Provide appropriate input and challenge to clinical and business plans where necessary.
  • Provides leadership to resolve day to day issues with department.
  • To function as an effective role model, demonstrating the application of breadth and depth of nursing knowledge and skills delivering best practice nursing.
  • Monitor and ensure there is high patient satisfaction with nursing care
  • Act as an ambassador for, and lead the staff un achieving the hospital’s mission, vision and values and strategic plan as envisaged by the Executive management Team
  • Adheres to the Nursing Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
  • Follows all Sidra policies and procedures and guidelines.
In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this pre-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.



Master’s Degree in related field of nursing or Healthcare.
PhD Qualification or in the process of will be preferred

10 years’ experience as a senior nurse/healthcare manager with operational responsibility in a large acute healthcare organization

Preferred criteria 

  • Experience of senior roles within Women’s and Children’s healthcare settings
  • 2+ years of experience in nursing practice development and education
  • Experience at lecturer level in an academic setting  

Certification and Licensure
Current Professional License as a Registered Nurse or midwife in country of origin.
