Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Department: The Department of Pharmacy provides world class pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient base of women and children of both local and international origin. Our expert staff is dedicated to the provision of specialized pediatric and maternal healthcare in an empathetic and caring clinical environment.  Our department services  inpatient, emergency and ambulatory settings in a 399 bed facility utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and technologies.
Job Summary:

The Clinical Pharmacist - Pharmacy Educator assists with organizational and department-wide educational initiatives by conveying essential information to Pharmacy staff, assuring completion of all required training, and serving as a Pharmacy practice role model.  He/She develops, designs, delivers, and evaluates Pharmacy education programs, competencies, and professional development solutions that are learner-focused, accessible, and linked to the strategic goals of both the Pharmacy department and the organization.

Key Role Accountabilities:

Required Competencies:

  • Utilizes superb communication and customer service skills that demonstrate the ability to listen well and show patience when working with others.

  • Demonstrates educational leadership, including the ability to facilitate a positive learning culture as well as steering the development, implementation and evaluation of sound educational programs.

  • Eeffectively champions and promotes educational initiatives (at both the individual and organizational level), to achieve the intended professional and operational outcomes.

  • Maintains familiarity with operations and continuously assesses training & educational needs.

  • Maintains familiarity with the requirements of regulatory surveys conducted by the Qatar Ministry of Public Health, Joint Commission International and similar organizations.


Departmental orientation and training:

  • Orients and trains new and existing employees.

  • Recruits and trains existing staff members to assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

  • Maintains new employee orientation/training checklists and updates them as necessary.

  • Maintains orientation and training documentation for all Pharmacy employees.

  • Maintains familiarity with operations and assesses continued training needs.

  • Develops and maintains the Pharmacy Education Plan. Supervises and facilitates the mandatory education program.

  • Develops and prioritizes competency training modules and exams to assess staff members' comprehension of departmental and organizational policies.

  • Coordinates with scheduling committee regarding the training schedule for new and existing employees.

  • Serves as a resource regarding staff development/training.


    Continuing Education (CE) for the Pharmacy Staff:

  • Informs staff of local and regional opportunities for CE sessions & credits required for licensure renewal.

  • Organizes continuing education programs/inservices and Pharmacy Grand Rounds.

  • Serves as a liaison between our department and Sidra Licensing to ensure Pharmacy employees maintain licensure.  This includes ensuring that Pharmacy employees complete the minimium amount of CE on an annual or bi-annual basis.

  • Maintains CE records for all Pharmacy employees.


Community relations:

  • Participates in career days at local universities, colleges and high schools when possible.

  • Serves as liaison between our department and our organization for health fairs, vaccination campaigns and other initiatives relating to community relations.


    Policies and procedures :

  • Reviews departmental and organizational policies and procedures related to Pharmacy education to assess needs for revision or additional policy statements.

  • Writes or assists with writing both departmental and hospital-wide policies and procedures related to Pharmacy education.

  • Reviews all new and revised departmental and organizational policies and procedures (ie, infection control, safety, and emergency preparedness) to assess the need for staff education or needed changes to our orientation and training programs.


    A resource for Pharmacy and hospital personnel:

  • Serves as liaison between Pharmacy and the Clinical Librarian(s) to ensure all needed medical literature and other reference resources (both online and as physical books) are available and accessible. Will be required to inservice Pharmacy Staff (and possibly non-Pharmacy Staff) regarding the availability and proper use of these resources.

  • Continuously reassesses the need for access to new medical literature and other reference resources, based on input from Pharmacy Staff.



  • Coordinates departmental preparation for Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Joint Commission International (JCI) and other regulatory surveys.

  • Has expertise in best practice recommendations relating to operations (ie, USP 797, USP 800, USP 795, ISMP, OSHA & similar).

  • Maintains records as required by regulatory agencies.

  • Completes all required Continuing Education activities to maintain licensure to practice as a Pharmacist in Qatar, per the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP).

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

  • Complies with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements for a specific practice setting.



  • Serves as leader of the Pharmacy Education Team that addresses issues related to departmental orientation, training, and continuing education.

  • Participates as an active member of the Sidra’s clinical education/orientation team.



    Occasionally, The Clinical Pharmacist- Pharmacy Educator may be called upon to assist with tasks relating to medication distribution and order-entry, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Checks and verifies that medication reconciliation is completed on admission and discharge.

  • Reviews patients’ medication orders for efficacy and safety, and makes recommendations to Prescriber if changes are required.

  • Provides drug information to healthcare professionals, including but not limited to prescribers and nurses.

  • Performs therapeutic drug level monitoring and makes adjustments for ensuring patient safety.

  • Consults with peers and supervisors when assistance is needed in choosing the most appropriate drug therapy.

  • Participates in drug use evaluation and drug protocol management.

  • Assesses the status of the patient’s health problems and determines whether the prescribed medications are optimally meeting the patient’s needs and goals of care.

  • Performs Drug-Drug, Drug-Lab, Drug Food and Drug-Disease Monitoring and offers alternatives when applicable.

  • Ensures continuity of care between the acute and ambulatory patient care environments.

  • Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely, as per policy and procedure

  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

  • Adheres to and promotes Sidra’s Values



In view of the developing and changing needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Essential Requirements:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or  Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (PGDipClin-Pharm)

  • All degrees must have been obtained from an ACPE accredited college of Pharmacy or equivalent.

  •  5+ years’ experience as a licensed/registered Clinical Staff  Pharmacist after graduation from primary degree in a recognized pediatric/ women's hospital in North America or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand.
  •  Licensed in Pharmacy in country of origin
  • Obtain State of Qatar Pharmacy License after on boarding. 
  • Excellent clinical knowledge as it pertains to medication and disease management

  • Demonstrated ability to work with Phar-macy Information Systems

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
