Job Summary:
The Attending Physician is responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence-based care; effective and efficient diagnosing, managing and treating all patients placed under the role holder’s care.  The Attending Physician makes recommendations, orders appropriate therapeutics and diagnostics as per the patient’s diagnosed condition.
  • Supports, implements, and follows all Sidra, department and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures. 
  • Help lead, implement and participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review process.
  • Overseas the clinical activities of the junior medical staff and assume responsibility of the care they provide.
  • Fosters a culture of learning , development and continuous improvement across the department
  • Complies with all established Sidra policies regarding admissions, consultation, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
  • Practices appropriate utilization of Sidra’ resources.
  • Performs clinical duties and ensures continuity of care.
Engages in research development activities with a professional and applied focus in keeping with Sidra Research protocols, vision and strategy.

Key Role and Accountability:
  • Responsible for the delivery of high quality evidence-based care and services within specialty area.
  • Leads ward rounds, reassesses inpatients and/or outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
  • Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modified treatment as required.
  • Provides clinical excellence by effective and efficient diagnoses, manages and treats all patients placed under the post holder’s care.
  • Delivers safe, effective and holistic clinical services within accepted standards of care. Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
  • Supports, implements and follows all hospital, departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
  • Liaises with colleagues, other medical specialties, Allied Health staff, nursing, administrative and support services staff for additional input as required.
  • Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help in an effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
  • Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, Primary Care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk in patients and patients referred from other hospitals.
  • Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
  • Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources.
  • Demonstrates an active interest in educating and fostering future academic leaders nationally and internationally through active participation in education initiatives.
  • Demonstrates an active interest and involvement in research by initiating innovative clinical or research outcomes or collaborating on research projects to support the Sidra vision.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continued medical education (CME).
  • Keeps abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
  • Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
  • Organizes/supports quality improvement programs for the division and monitors and reports on quality initiatives to the Division Chief.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

 Sites of practice:

  • NICU, Nursery & Labor and Delivery Suites.
  • Inpatient patient care units.
  • Telemedicine consultation when developed and appropriate.
  • Procedure rooms in the hospital when needed and appropriate.

Site visits to referring and affiliated hospitals and clinics when requested and appropriate.

Qualification, Experience & Skills:

Education:

  • MD
  • Completion of residency program in the specialty area from an accredited Western Board of Pediatrics 
  • Subspecialty Fellowship and board certification in Neonatology from accredited program or its equivalent

Experience:

  • 3+ years of post-certification fellowship in clinical care or education in the relevant filed from a North American Academic/health Care institution or equivalent in the UK, Republic of Ireland or other European countries with accredited and recognized board, Australia or New Zealand.

Certification and Licensure:

  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
