Department Profile:

Sidra Medical & Research Center’s Medical Staff Services Department, Support Services, and the Department of Pediatrics excel at providing a support system for the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional Staff. Pediatric Medical Services, headed by the Chair of Pediatrics reporting to the Executive
Chair of Pediatrics, is responsible for all Pediatric clinical practice, research and education across the organization.

Job Summary:
 

The Hospital Neonatologist (HN) within the Division of Neonatology is a Board Eligible/Certified neonatologist with advanced academic preparation and clinical training from an accredited program in North America, UK, European Union, Republic of South Africa, New Zealand or Australia. Exemptions from Neonatal-Perinatal Board eligibility/certification might be granted if candidate meets all of the following criteria: 1. Board certified in pediatrics in the above countries or by the Arab Boards of Pediatrics; 2. candidate has at least 3 years of clinical experience in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine obtained in a reputable hospital in a Western country or the Middle East working as a hospitalist or specialist under neonatology attending/consultant supervision; 3. candidate has demonstrated verifiable clinical skills expected from a front-line neonatology health care physician provider; and/or 4. completed a Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship in the Division of Neonatology at Sidra M&RC.

Under supervision of the neonatology attending, the HN provides family-centered medical care services to neonates to establish diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. Responsibilities include ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests; prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies in a cost efficient manner. The HN is a health care resource, and patient advocate. Additional involvement in academic and quality improvement projects will be encouraged and required. Such activities include but are not restricted to participation in Nursing and Allied Health education, resident and fellow training, contribution to ongoing clinical research projects and/or the development of divisional guidelines or involvement in divisional multidisciplinary quality improvement projects. Key Role and Accountability:
  • Coordinates and facilitates delivery of patient and family care within a multidisciplinary framework primarily in an inpatient care setting as part of the Neonatal Program at Sidra M&RC, to ensure a patient/family focused and service orientated environment that is accordance with Evidenced Based and Best Practice standards.
  • Under the supervision of the Neonatology Attending, assesses and identifies the health needs of the specialized Neonatal/Perinatal population and plans, implements, and evaluates interventions appropriate to meet those needs which are appropriate to the scope of the NICU and Perinatal program and in accordance to organizational standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary health care team to devise treatment plans based on patient/family needs to ensure the delivery of high quality and evidence based services that are sufficient, efficient and responsive, and designed to meet the identified patient/family care needs and organizational outcomes.
  • Contributes to ensuring that clinical practices within the Division of Neonatology are in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Ministry of
  • Publicly Health, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Provides counseling and anticipatory guidance to patients and families regarding physical, psychosocial and developmental needs.
  • Facilitates effective inter- and intradepartmental communication between patient, family, community and interdisciplinary team members for collaboration, liaison, networking and teamwork to ensure the maintenance of strong and professional relationships.
  • Elicits, performs and records the history and physical examinations on assigned patients. Under the supervision of the Neonatology Attending, develops a differential diagnosis for the presenting problem and implements a plan for management.
  • Develops and performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per standardized protocols.
  • Under the supervision of the Neonatology Attending, collaborates with Case Management and Discharge Planning teams to plan and facilitate the continuity of comprehensive care of specialty patient populations from hospital, home and outpatient setting.
  • Assists in the assessment of learning needs of patients and families, and works in tandem with the Community and Patient Education Department to develop and implement patient education materials and programs that are centered on the learning preferences, religious and cultural values, and appropriate reading and language skills of target audience to meet those identified needs.

  • Under the supervision of the Neonatology Attending, identifies and facilitates resolution of challenges and problems when appropriate to improve Neonatal Division – NICU/Perinatal program cohesiveness and patient satisfaction.
  • Assists in the promotion of a safe working environment inclusive of cultural competence and continuous learning, development and growth to contribute to ensuring that the Division of Neonatology has a capable and competent environment.
  • Participates in the Quality and Performance Improvement activities of the Neonatology Division through regular chart review, targeted CQI activities, and the systematic and detailed review and evaluation of patient outcome data.
  • Provides both day-time and, less frequently, night-time patient care coverage as directed by the clinical schedule of the Division of Neonatology.
  • Provides effective and timely record keeping and documentation.
  • Maintains knowledge of current research and incorporates findings into clinical practice.
  • Actively participates in clinical research projects as directed.
  • Actively participates in clinical management consensus development.
  • Is active in professional organizations and maintains Medical License.
  • Participates in Nursing, Allied Health, and Post Graduate Medical Training as required.
  • Conducts other duties as directed by the Neonatology Attending, and the Division Chief of Neonatology.
  • Assists with Sidra marketing strategies as required.
  • Promotes and assists in physician community outreach programs as appropriate.
  • Supports the development of Sidra as a world class regional center.
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
  • Sites of practice:
    • NICU, Nursery & Labor and Delivery Suites.
    • Inpatient patient care units.
    • Telemedicine consultation when developed and appropriate.
    • Procedure rooms in the hospital when needed and appropriate.
    • Site visits to referring and affiliated hospitals and clinics when requested and appropriate.
Qualification, Experience & Skills:

Education:

  • MD
  • Completion of residency program in the specialty area from an accredited Western Board of Pediatrics 
  •  Subspecialty Fellowship and board certification or eligibility in Neonatal- Perinatal Medicine

Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience post- residency in Specialty area clinical care or education in Child Protective Services at a Senior Management level from a North American Academic/ Health care  Institution  or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, or other European Countries with accredited and recognized board, Australia or New Zealand with no break in clinical practice.

Certification and Licensure:

  • Valid professional License in the country of origin or country of practice in the specialty area
