The Executive Director – Operations provides high level leadership, strategic direction and advocacy in the management of the clinical management group at Sidra Medical and Research Center.  Reporting to the Executive Chair, the Executive Director – Operations develops the strategy and plan for the clinical management group to achieve the vision for Sidra, including outcomes and workforce issues at a strategic and tactical level.The Executive Director is responsible for the management of all aspects of operations and delivery within the clinical management group. The Executive Director – Operations collaborates with the Executive Director - Finance in the budgeting process, to secure resources and other desired outcomes; the Executive Director - Human Resources on all people matters; the Executive Director – Nursing for planning and performance of the nursing workforce. The Executive Director – Operations  is also responsible for ensuring that all recommendations, decisions, directions and actions made and associated with this role are carried out in accordance with and support the strategy, values and guiding principles of Sidra Medical and Research Center

Key Accountabilities:
  • Accountable for ensuring operations run effectively and efficiently for the clinical management group
  • Accountable for developing strategic, operational and business plans, often working through others
  • Manages all aspects of operational delivery of the clinical management group on behalf of the Executive Chair. Examples of this include clinical throughput, setting targets, driving efficiency and effectiveness, patient satisfaction, performance management and improvement as well as but not limited to delivery of clinical management group objectives
  • Manages clinical management group governance processes on behalf of the Executive Chair. Examples of this include management, governance, performance management processes, quality governance forum
  • Provides expert and strategic direction, advice and leadership to implement services and developments within the clinical management group
  • Leads strategic level management processes on behalf of Executive Chair, applying high level health care business knowledge, advocating authoritatively for clinical management group.
  • Provides leadership and robust strategies for the development of the clinical management group including leading initiatives personally where appropriate
  • Operationally leads and manages large scale complex problems to resolution, including all associated risks, issues and related implications
  • Leads the development of new initiatives across disciplines, services, functions and teams,  including: sourcing of opportunities, developing implementation plans, building capability for delivery and evaluating outcomes
  • Continually evaluates the Clinical Management Groups progress with the Group’s business and  strategic plans, providing timely reports and recommendations to the Executive Chair to ensure the Group achieves its objectives and targets
  • Translates and cascades corporate objectives into assigned portfolio.  Drives the quality agenda. Working cooperatively and effectively with other team members sets priorities, develops work schedules, monitors progress towards goals and tracks details, data, information and activities.  Addresses any variances and monitors outcomes. 
  • Acts as a role model in ethical behavior and business practices and ensures that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.  
  • Ensures human, financial and physical resources within portfolio are utilized effectively and efficiently, ensuring compliance with budget and performance targets.
  • Drives performance development across portfolio. Provides clear feedback to team members in a manner that is consistent with organizational values and conducive to maintaining and improving performance. Counsels and/or disciplines staff as appropriate
  • Supports recruitment, retention and recognition activities.  Participates in candidate screening and interviewing.  Actively welcomes new staff/students to Group.  Provides mentoring opportunities and supports succession planning in assigned portfolio. 
  • Mentors and supports staff in the development, participation and publication of research endeavors. Represents the Executive Chair in their absence on all leadership and management issues (that are not medical or of a clinical nature)
  • Establishes effective partnerships with both internal and external key stakeholders, local, national and international partners, by communicating with them in a timely, appropriate and effective manner. 
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies
  • Follows all Sidra policies and procedures and guidelines.

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Management  or equivalent Clinical Qualification


  • 10+ years’ experience as a Senior Executive within a Healthcare setting
  • Experience of successful change management
  • Experience of successful handling of large budgets
  • Experience managing operational aspects of outpatient and inpatient healthcare facilities at a senior level
  • Experience of managing large and diverse clinical teams, including performance management
  • Experience of delivering continuous improvement initiatives

Preferred Criteria 

  • Experience of working in health care in the Middle East
  • Experience of working in a children and women’s hospital
