The Neurodiagnostic Service will cater to children presenting with neurological conditions.

A pediatric interprofessional team will work collaboratively to provide optimal care in a high performing environment where patient and family outcomes and patient, family and employee satisfaction are core values. Clinical research with an emphasis on education, quality improvements and patient and family safety will be integral parts of each unit’s profile.                       


The Long Term Monitoring Technologist performs long-term video EEG studies on pediatric inpatients, primarily in the seizure and intensive care units.  She/he also records ECoG for epilepsy surgery and assists in stimulation montages during mapping.  The Long Term Monitoring Technologist conducts specialized competent recordings according to best practices, while being sensitive to the demands of working in a pediatric environment. 

The Long Term Monitoring Technologist works independently and is proficient at technical troubleshooting, choosing and creating appropriate montages, ictal identification, and communicating effectively with the patient’s care team. She/He participates in continuing education and conducts relevant clinical research. The Long Term Monitoring Technologist mentors and provides education, clinical and technical direction to the EEG Technologist as well as assists in their competency assessment. 

    • Decides which patient tailored approach to take thus impacting the experience and quality of the service provided.

    • Responsible for obtaining artifact-free EEG studies.

    • Performs varied and complex EEG tests according to physician orders.

    • Uses skilled interactions with pediatric and neonatal in- and outpatients.

    • Utilizes evidence-based standards and solutions in performing patient care and applies problem solving techniques.

    • Mentors and educates EEG Technologist staff.

    • Gives both clinical and technical direction to EEG Technologist staff.

    • Assists in the competency assessment of the EEG Technologist staff.

    • Conducts relevant clinical research projects

    • Reports equipment failures, safety and security issues, and/or reduction of supply inventory.

    • Considers safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in planning patient care.

    • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships and solicits input from physicians and other healthcare personnel to ensure optimal patient care.

    • Participates in the integration and evaluation of research into practice. 

    • Utilizes patient care processes and clinical information systems to ensure standardized patient care.

    • Maintains technical skills, certification and collaborates with clinical educators for continuing education.

    • Participates in Sidra commissioning activities as required.

    • Follows all organizational policies and procedures.

    In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences, Engineering or Physics
  • 2 year Neurodiagnostic Diploma from an accredited school (or equivalent degree/diploma from an accredited internationally recognized program)
  • 5+  years clinical experience in EEG
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education
  • CLTM or equivalent License/Certification in Country of Origin
  • BLS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Troubleshooting knowledge and can solve technical challenges independently and quickly.

  • The ability to calculate, quantifies, qualify, use initiative and judgment to read and interpret data.

  • Careful attention to detail and ability to record observations in acute and emergent situations.

  • Manual dexterity for electrode placement and machine operation.

  • Spatial orientation for electrode placement, equipment set up and data assessment.

  • Familiarity with TJC, JCI and other accreditation organizations.

  • Confidence learning new software and equipment.

  • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office, and Excel.

  • Ability to use search engines and data bases for journal article research.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
