Once fully operational by mid-2018, Sidra Medicine will handle 275,000 outpatient appointments, 11,000 procedures, 100,000 emergency attendances and deliver over 9,000 babies per year, adding capacity to a rapidly growing population and delivering world-class specialist care.

The hospital will include 10 operating theatres, 400 beds, 100 percent single rooms with a private bathroom, a birthing center and an emergency department.

Department Profile:

The Allied Health Department is a diverse mix of professions and services working together to provide patients with the comprehensive care that they require. Allied Health will provide services to neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients of all specialties, as well as obstetrical and gynecological patients.

The vision of the Department of Allied Health is to provide outstanding care, rehabilitation, and patient/ family support through the provision of high quality clinicians and services working in an interdisciplinary environment that integrates education, research, and innovation into its model of care.

Job Summary:

The Manager - Physical Therapy is responsible for leadership in the areas of operations, administrative functions and collaboration with clinical programs. The Manager - Physical Therapy is also responsible for the development of programs and program evaluation methodologies; research activities and evidence based practices; facilitating education programs and performing other duties consistent with the classification, as delegated by the Director - Allied Health. The Manager - Physical Therapy promotes a culture of continuous improvement and helps to generate innovative ideas within Allied Health.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Takes a lead role in the installation, interfacing and testing of Physical Therapy medical devices during the pre-operation and service activation phase(s)
  • Leads the team in the review of and gives expert advice on CIS build and implementation as well as identifying system and process deficiencies and recommending solutions which are effective to meet clinical and functional requirements
  • Takes a lead role in the ordering of all consumables, medical equipment and accessories necessary for the provision of services
  • Participates in Sidra commissioning activities as required
  • Takes a lead role in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of staff as required
  • Integrates ethical and cultural considerations and processes in all areas of planning
  • Supervises staff therapists within the areas of service, education and research to facilitate best possible patient care
  • Conducts regular performance appraisals of staff therapists in keeping with Human Resources policies and procedures; recommends promotions, disciplinary action or termination of employment as appropriate
  • Assumes a leadership role in representing Physical Therapy to program managers, medical staff within the hospital, inter-professional staff and community agencies
  • Oversees the Physical Therapy continuing education program
  • Maintains effective communication with therapy and inter-professional staff in program organization and patient care
  • Organizes and leads regular staff meetings
  • Meets regularly with the Director – Allied Health Services reporting activities of the department and programs
  • Oversees on-boarding process and liaises with Human Resources
  • Orients new staff to Physical Therapy Services, and Department Policies and Programs
  • Plans and formulates departmental strategic plan
  • Establishes department and program goals annually and ensures the achievement of those goals
  • Ensures the development and monitoring of a quality management program for therapy services
  • Accountable for staff adherence to Department, Hospital and Program policies
  • Recommends to the Director – Allied Health the purchase of new equipment
  • Ensures all equipment is maintained and safe to use, and that all staff are oriented to its use
  • Ensures the provision of quality treatment of all patients receiving therapy services by analyzing the workload, establishing priorities and allocating staff appropriately, in consultation with the Director – Allied Health
  • Monitors departmental and operating expenses, and provides appropriate reports to the Director – Allied Health
  • Provides oversight for all research proposals originating within Physical Therapy to ensure adherence with hospital and national standards
  • Assists therapists to initiate and conduct research that is aligned with the strategic goals of Sidra
  • Approves research intents and proposals for submission to the relevant group/ committee
  • Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra during this early-operational phase, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

Essential Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Physical Therapy or in Business Administration
  • 7 years of relevant experience including 3 years of progressive management experience
  • Experience in managing a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in organizing data and generating thorough, accurate and timely reports
  • Experience with Clinical Information Systems either as an end user, super user or build contributor
  • Current Registration and Licensure as a Physical Therapist in Country of Origin 
  • Demonstrated ability to use search engines and databases for evidence-based practice/ internet research
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong group presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
